Hostile Tower Defense 3D is an immersive and action packed 3D experience. Similar in gameplay to most tower defense games (and therefore easy to pick up), it comes with some very cool features and lots of weaponry.
Price: Free, or $2.99 available from AndroidTapp App Store or Android Market
Tested on: HTC Desire HD
Content Rating: Everyone
Pros & Cons:
Pros
- Cool 1st person perspectives!
- 3D graphics!
- Lots of levels and scenarios!
- Plenty of technologies to research!
Cons
- Often feels slow compared to other tower defense games.
Features:
Hostile Tower Defense 3D is tower defending with a difference. The big difference for me, and which might well strike you initially too, is the ability in-game to zoom into 1st person mode. This places you in the very turret you are firing from and allows you to watch in closer detail the baddies destruction. This is a superb effect and makes the game really stand out from similar titles.
The graphics are represented in smart 3D. I think some of the alien ships come across as a bit blocky at times, but this isn’t a genuine issue as such.
Gameplay is immediately familiar, simply add weapons to the available towers. These can then be upgraded as you progress. If you’ve played tower defense games before, this should be pretty easy to play. There are about 100 levels to traverse, and these get progressively harder. The game also feature differing scenarios to contend, so you will have different aims and objectives.
There are two modes: Casual: a good starting place to get a feel of the game. Advanced: This adds a far more strategic element to gameplay. Here you need to develop new technologies to combat the aliens and there are 45 different technologies to choose from. This adds a huge dimension to gameplay and increases the longevity of the game itself. Mightily impressive.
The only issue I had with it, and unfortunately I found it to be relatively significant, is the speed. It feels incredibly slow compared to other tower defense games and there’s no means to speed up- such as a fast-forward control. While the game is packed with original things to do, this speed issue is somewhat debilitating and might put gamers off.

Fun Factor:
Hostile Tower Defense 3D is undeniably lots of fun. Being able to instantaneously jump into the cockpit of a battling tower is a superb and original feature. With all the levels and scenarios, there’s lots to do in the game with arguably endless possibilities and battles.
Addictive:
Once you get into the game it’s hugely immersive and draws you back again and again. The speed issue does mean you have to warm up to it and it’s not as immediately addictive as some titles. It is a rewarding game though, so worth sticking with.
Graphics:
The graphics are 3D and very good, although not the best we’ve seen. Still, the first person perspective shots dazzle and it’s a interesting twist on normal tower defense games.
Accelerometer, Vibration & Sound:
Sountracked by a pulsing orchestral/military tune the game works well with its sound. This is quite limited however, I would have liked to see more expressive explosion sounds, etc.
