AndroidTapp.com Android Game Review:

Pros & Cons:

Pros

  • Simple, yet addictive game play!
  • Increasing difficulty to keep you coming back!
  • A zippy soundtrack!

Cons

  • It’s very “Halloween”.

Features:

Hordz is a horror-themed game that has you repelling not zombies but witches, goblins and other creatures of the night. It starts out fairly simply, like that of a bug squishing game, with witches that you repel with a flick up of your finger, you encounter different enemies, and each one has a different method of attack, from different swipes, taps, etc. When it really gets hard is when you have a variety of different types all coming at you at the same time, and you have to juggle the different types of attacks. It gets hard, fast, but that’s where the challenge lies.

I’d rate this up there with other addictive casual games like Temple Run or Angry Birds, in that it’s quick to pick up, but there’s enough here to keep you coming back for more. There’s not a ton to the game, but the increasing challenge will have you frustrated and triumphant in turns.

If I had any complaint, it would probably be that I don’t really think of this as “horror”. It felt more like a Halloween app to me than a horror theme. But that’s a minor issue, to be honest. I didn’t encounter any bugs or hiccups, and the game worked exactly the way I expected it to, which is something you don’t always get with free games, especially. There is an ad across the top of the game that is kind of large, but it doesn’t cover any of the game area, so it’s easy to ignore. There is a bit of a pause between when you beat the level and when your score comes up, but at that point, I’m admittedly nitpicking a bit.

Fun Factor:

I found it to be a fun game, and a nice alternative to some of the other casual but challenging games on the market. It definitely kept me coming back.

Addictive:

Yeah, I’d put this up there with a Temple Run or Angry Birds level of addictiveness. It’s fun, challenging and cute, which is a great combination.

Graphics:

The graphics are, as I mentioned, a bit more Halloween than horror, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. It’s a cute game, with cute graphics, which I liked. If you like 3D effects, you can hop to the settings menu to turn up the level of 3D blur- be sure your device is powerful enough to handle this.

Accelerometer, Vibration & Sound:

The soundtrack is very “poppy” and to be honest, while it’s not bad, I turned it off not long into the game. I didn’t think it was terrible, but I didn’t feel like it added much, and when I play this type of casual game, it’s usually when I’m out and about, standing in lines or sitting on the couch watching television. So the sound has to really be captivating for me to leave it on, and this wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t enough to compel me to keep it on either.

It’s not “3D blur”, it’s the depth of the stereoscopic 3D, and you need to be wearing red+blue 3D glasses to see the effect. That’s definitely something that we’ll have to make clearer in future updates.
