AndroidTapp.com Android App Review:

Pros & Cons:

Pros

  • Cool and convenient way to share images, songs, contacts, URLs, messages, and more with anyone in the area
  • They have significantly improved sharing gestures with drag and drop of files from phone to phone motions that  are more intuitive
  • Cross platform, share files between Android, iPhone, and Web with ease
  • Hoccer “Wall” offers unlimited innovative presentation possibilities
  • Hoccer “Webapp” allow easy file share from computer to phone
  • You can “toss” and “catch” files

Features:

Hoccer is a data-sharing app, that allows you to share just about any file on your phone with other people. It doesn’t require registration or cloud storage, as all the transfers are done phone to phone. The caveat? It has to be to someone else running the Hoccer client. However, the recent updates to the app and online makes it worthy of download.

Hoccer Throw Data Android App allows you to “drag and drop” or “toss and catch” data like contacts, pictures, music, ringtones, web address bookmarks, Android apps, and text messages to friends and they catch them (assuming they have Hoccer install too). You can also throw other file types provided you have the third-party app OI File Manager installed. Catch a URL and it conveniently opens the link in  the web browser, catch a picture and the gallery opens, catch music and your default media player streams the tune, catch a text message and read it, catch Android apps and link directly to the Android Market, catch a contact to view full details and make a call… Cool!

Hoccer recently added two awesome features that allow file sharing from Web to Phone (Webapp) and Phone to Web (Wall). Both require you to give access to your location in the browser. Imagine the possibilities, without the need to login; to upload a file from your computer and receive it to your phone, or to fling a picture from your phone to monitor and share photos of a trip on the big screen.

Tip: if you’re connected to the same Wi-Fi network, download speeds are significantly faster!

Usefulness:

Hoccer offer a convenient way to transfer data… actually it’s a tech sexy way to share data. Great use cases, especially for Android phones, is the ease to share contacts.

The tutorial when you first open the app, and accessible via the menu later, walks you through the features, and even teaches you the toss and catch motions, so once you get to the point where you select a file, you’re all set to go.

Ease of Use:

Hoccer has made great improvements in the ease of use department since the last time we looked at this app. Before, it was nearly a hazard to sling your phone so fiercely, it almost created Wii accident scenarios. Now, it’s much cleaner to slide file from phone to phone, shake, or lightly toss files.

Frequently Used:

Dependent on whether you and friends both have the app installed and how often you need to share information.

Interface:

The interface is very easy to learn. The main page, once you’re past the tutorial, lets you tap to add a file, and lets you select a file stored anywhere on your phone. The motions themselves are easy to do, and give file sharing a very unique twist.

Should you Download APP? Yup! Make Sure you Grab a Buddy to Download it Too! This is a great file sharing app, and you should get all your friends to download it too. It’s really power will be when/if it is installed on a wide range of phones, so using it to share files will become a non-issue – everyone will have it already.

Is there really no way to just transfer and receive files by safely pushing a button on the screen? I would not feel safe nearly throwing my $500 phone! I love the idea, but I will wait for a safter alternative.

  2. Rodja says:

We introduced an ultra simple one-to-one transfer technique in the v1.5 release of our Android client. Now you can simply drag ‘n drop content from one touchsceen to the other! Of course you can still use the throw/catch gestures for one-to-may distribution.

  3. Brian Hanifin says:

Now that’s service! I am looking forward to installing this on both my and my wife’s phones and giving it a try. It sounds like it will be a lot simpler to use than Bluetooth File Transfer.

  4. Dustin says:

Hi, was curious if this does work on the Motorola Droid? My wife works with 2 people, one has the Eris and the other has an IPhone and she said that Hoccer only works with those 2. She also said that they use it to trade actual apps with each other. I am getting my Droid tomorrow and am very excited about this app.

    Thanks

    Dustin B
