Hashtagmatic Pro – an app for the serious social networker Install

Hashtagmatic Pro is a cool social application that compliments the network-wide use of hashtags. If you need to add hashtags to certain words or phrases in the updates you post, and find it a chore to remember to do so etc, Hashtagmatic helps you do this with ease. It also saves the hashtags you have used previously and the Pro version of the app will store your posts. A great app for the serious social networker, the app is innovative and relatively simple to use.

Price: Free, $1.29 for the Pro version

AndroidTapp.com Android App Review:

Pros & Cons:

Pros

  • Innovative and useful service for social butterflies!
  • Saves hashtags and posts!
  • Saves having to type out posts multiple times for multiple social networks!
  • Let’s you share with various places; networks, SMS, email and more!
  • Also lets you share content from various sources, such as your browser and other apps!

Cons

  • There isn’t much in the way of in-app tutorial.
  • Posts cannot exceed 140 characters, good for Twitter, not good if you regularly post to places like Google+ which don’t have such restrictions.
  • Unsure how practical it is to use in the long term.

Features:

If you’re a busy social network enthusiast, you might find it irksome to always have to remember to put ‘@’ and ‘#’ signs in front of selected words and phrases, perhaps especially if you use these regularly. Well now, there’s an app for that. Hastagmatic makes this a little easier by allowing you to save favourite # tags and @ tags. This then makes it somewhat easier to create posts and ensure the tags are included.

The app features a box which allows you to post to a variety of places, from your favourite social networks to email and SMS. One issue I noted was that it only allows you to create posts up to 140 characters. Now, if you’re using it primarily for Twitter this is fine as it matches Twitter’s 140 character cap. However, social networks such as Google+ do not have this limitation so the app is less effective here.

I like the way the app saves previously used hashtags so, if it’s something you perhaps use a lot, it will recognize it when you create a post and you can auto apply the # tag to it. This does mean, however, that you have to go through the Hashtagmatic app to post anything anywhere.

Alternatively, there is the option to share content ‘through’ Hashtagmatic and then post to your networks. So, what you can do is this; share to the app, add the tags, then share on to your other networks. It does mean jumping from app to app, but it’s a far easier way to be consistent with the tags you add.

If your posts rely heavily on the ability to easily add hashtags etc, this is ideal, but if you prefer the comfort of familiar and interactive interfaces, it might feel a little unintuitive to leave an app in order to post to it. Also, what if you want to reply to someone elses post? You’ll have to come out of the app (say Twitter) open Hashtagmatic, create your post and remember the name of the person you are replying to, add your hashtags and then post. :( It is perhaps in situations like that where just remembering to add a # is a far simpler solution. :|

I think this is an app you really have to try out to see if it works for you. While it has some serious pluses, for some users it might be more hassle than it’s worth. Fortunately, the app is free to try out, so definitely give it a go.

Usefulness:

If you rely on # and @ tags and yet frequently forget to add them, this might be the solution you’re looking for. It’s a rather unique problem and therefore a unique solution, so I’d be interested to hear how you use this app, feel free to add comments!

Ease of Use:

There is no in-app tutorial and that’s a pain. There is a reasonable explanation in the app’s Google Play description, but there really should be something in the app itself that explains how it works. Once you’ve worked it out it’s fine, but it may put you off initially that you’re unsure how it works.

Frequently Used:

This will completely depend on the user and how you personally use tags. I imagine it’ll be something you either use all the time, or very infrequently if at all. I really like this as a concept, but I’m unsure exactly how practical it is for people to use on a regular basis.

Interface:

The interface is very simplistic and without much in the way of frills. If anything it feels very much like a beta product. That said, it does work well and, although some of the dialogue that pops up isn’t in English, the app  is effective in what it does.

There is also another way of using hashtagmatic, and it is the most useful to me. When you are watching content from your browser or your favourite app reader and feel the need of sharing, do it via hashtagmatic because it will also short the URL and show a preview of the web page. That is the heart of the application.

    Regards.
