Features:
Grave Defense HD is an excellent tower defense game for Android. Grave Defense HD is the High Definition version of the Grave Defense game for Android and comes packed with new features. It features a plethora of unique towers and enemies to confront in the game, an achievement system, visible monster way points, new multi-screen maps, and constant upgrades to add on new missions to the silver and gold campaigns.
This was the first tower defense game I have played for Android, other than Dungeon Defenders, and it thoroughly sucked me in to the game. The story line for Grave Defense HD is nothing to write home about. Zombies and ghosts came out of somewhere are attacking constantly and you are part of a military movement to stop it. That is about as much as I gathered because I always skip the mission briefings and jump right in to the game. However, after playing this game for awhile I realized you need to read through the bottom portion of the mission briefing in order to learn what new monsters you will be fighting. If you don’t do this you will lose fast due to the unique abilities the new monsters bring.
What kind of monsters do I have to fight? Pretty much every creepy monster or villain you can think of. Dracula, Frankenstein, Zombie Panthers, Exploding Ogres, Mummies, Ghosts, Creepy Insects, Undead Burning Guys, you name it and this game probably has it. Each of these monsters has different characteristics, abilities, and money values. So you need to construct towers that are geared towards taking out the mix of monsters that you are fighting on a given level. Dracula is a flying monster and moves extremely fast, Frankenstein is a ground monster and moves slowly but has more health then every other monster in the game, zombie panthers are fast ground animals with high hp, etc. These higher level monsters are also worth much more gold and so much more valuable to kill. They also need to be killed because if they are able to get past all of your towers you instantly lose the level.
There are many different towers to use to take down the various baddies in the game. Machine Gun Turrets, Flamethrowers, Freeze Traps, Freeze Rays, Crossbows, Cannons, Explosive Bombs, etc. Each of these towers is ideal for specific monsters and specific levels. The crossbow is essential for killing Dracula because he is a flying a monster with high hp. The crossbow does a large amount of damage and specifically targets only flying monsters. Many of the monsters need to be slowed down with the freeze traps. If you don’t slow down the panthers, Dracula, or Frankenstein then you are guaranteed to fail the level.
All of the monsters and weapons are outlined in detail in the in-game encyclopedia. The encyclopedia shows images of each item or bad guy. It describes strengths and weaknesses of various monsters as well as their type. Then it shows which weapons are useful against that type of monster. This is an extremely useful resource for a new player who wants to avoid a lot of trial and error while playing the game.
The game is designed to make you accustomed to the various types of monsters and weapons as you play through. As a result each level gets more difficult as you play through the game allowing you to slowly become better accustomed to the challenges the game presents. The farther you get in the game, the more unique challenges you will encounter. The later levels challenge you by limiting the number of towers you can use in the level and forcing to fight much more difficult monsters. I love the design of this game because it truly draws you in to the game and dedicate yourself to overcoming it’s challenges.
There is also an in-game achievement system which supports online ranking. This allows you to compare your achievements with the achievements of others, and makes the game extremely enjoyable.

Grave Defense HD Options
Fun Factor:
Grave Defense HD is extremely fun to play. The levels are challenging and the game play is addicting. The graphics to the game are excellent and it’s online achievement system will keep you coming back to play it more. I also love the large library of weapons in the game which allow you to be creative in how you defeat the monsters and beat each level.
Addictive:
Grave Defense HD is extremely addictive due to the flow of the campaign and the in-game achievement system. The levels in the game are designed to go up in small increments of difficulty as you progress. These small increases of difficulty keep you from being able to put down the game and cause you to better understand it as you play through. Your skills grow until you can beat levels with all the limitations and challenges the game throws at you which you would have never have imagined beating before.
The achievement system gives you goals to keep you replaying the game. After beating levels on easy you will want to replay it on hard and insane in order to get the achievements associated with beating the game on specific difficulties. You will want to kill all of the enemies without taking any damage in order to get achievements for playing through a level without damage. These extra goals keep you playing the game even after you beat it for the first time.
Graphics:
The graphics in Grave Defense HD are good, but not what I would have expected for a game on the Motorola Xoom. With so many Tegra optimized games being released in to the market when I buy a game with the HD name tag I expect it to be equal in quality to Guerrilla Bob or Dungeon Defenders. So I was a bit surprised when I downloaded this game and discovered that the graphics were all two dimensional and similar to what I was used to on my phone. The reason this game is HD, but of a different quality than the Tegra 2 games is that it is an HD game for all devices both phones and tablets. So the game developers were somewhat limited in how detailed they could make the graphics and allow it to work on so many devices.
The graphics in this game are better than the graphics of other tower defense games I have played on phones and tablets before and the cost of the game was small so I was still very happy with the purchase despite the fact that it was not specifically optimized for my Motorola Xoom.
Accelerometer, Vibration & Sound:
Grave Defense HD makes no use of vibration or the accelerometer. Unfortunately there is no way to incorporate either of these in to the game as they would either make the game impractical to play or annoying the gamer. The game does have an excellent soundtrack which complements the game play very well. This is definitely a game you will want to play with the sound on.
