Google Goggles is a visual search app. Instead of using words, take a picture of an object with your camera phone: we attempt to recognize the object, and return relevant search results. Goggles also provides information about businesses near you by displaying their names directly in the camera preview.

Pros & Cons:

Pros

  • Visual Search & it Works!
  • Many features

Cons

  • Still infancy stages, can’t search all things with it but growing

Features:

Google Goggles Android App… WOW! That pretty much seems this awesome Google Android App! The search giant is cranking out some impressive apps an this one adds alternate ways to find out information normally typed into Google’s search engine. Similar to the Android app SnappTell, yet goes much farther to recognize Books & DVDs, Landmarks, Logos, Contact Information, Artwork, Businesses (in augmented reality), Products, Barcodes and even Text. The app does NOT recognize animals, furniture or apparel. The app can keep a history of visual searches or not, plus offer somewhat similar suggestions to results not found.

Usefulness:

I really like the use of scanning someone’s business card and their information is prepared for easy import into your phone’s contacts. The ability to scan text is handy too! Say you’re leaving a meeting and have some typed agenda notes to take away, you can scan the text to copy and use in an email or SMS text message… sorta like your personal OCR.

Ease of Use:

Google Goggles Android App is simple to use, it’s encouraged to view the help start up for things the app probably will and won’t recognize, then put it to the test. Note: the better the lighting in your photo, then better chance your visual search will be recognized by Google.

Frequently Used:

User dependent… maybe you’ll use it often, maybe you’ll rub it into your iPhone buddies face every now and then.  :-)

Thanks!… I wasn’t too keen on this Application.. Thought it was a toy that worked or maybe it didn’t..and there are other Barcode scanners out there..
BUT Your review pointed me to the Business Card Scanning … And Wow..It works very well for importing into contacts!.. The only issues is with something with a big logo on it that overrides everything else on the card..

    Kudos!

I would like to scan a business card and add it as a contact. The Googles Youtube video says this is possible but the only option I have after scanning a business card is to view the contact’s website.
