Google Docs Editing Coming To Android

Something we’ve all been waiting to hear: the ability to edit documents using Google Docs on an Android device. Early this morning, Google announced that they would introduce the service soon for Android and iPad users. This opens up a whole new set of opportunities for Android users to work on-the-go without the need for a laptop or netbook. Furthermore, I feel this might be in preparation for the numerous tablet devices set to come out over the next few months.

Google didn’t announce an exact date for when they would introduce the new features but did hint that we won’t have to wait too long.

“In the next few weeks, co-workers around the world will soon be able to co-edit files simultaneously from an even wider array of devices.”

I’m definitely excited about this one. In the same announcement, Google also introduced a new two-step authorization process available for Google Apps Premier, Education, and Government edition users. Instead of the current process with using only a password, users would need to use a combination of a password along with a verification code provided by their mobile phone. Mobile device users can still access Google Apps but now with stronger security policies in place. Google seems to be working hard and providing cloud services available to the several hundreds of million users it services. Google Apps users of the Standard Edition and the other remaining Google users will have this feature implemented “in the coming months”.
