According to Reports on both Android Central and PC World, Google is officially blocking rooted devices from renting movies in it’s new marketplace. The error message folks are getting is: “Failed to fetch license for [movie title] (error 49).” According to the reports, Google has made the move due to “copyright restrictions”. Right now, since the rentals require Android 3.1, it hasn’t been widely tested, but as the rentals trickle down to 2.2+ users, it will be interesting to see if that holds. If it does, there are going to be a lot of very angry people out there who won’t hesitate to go to another service like Netflix or Hulu.
