Pros
Cons
Gmail Popup Android App is a neat tool for previewing your Gmail at a glance via popup. It shows the email sender, subject, brief snippet of the email, plus quick toggle to dismiss or open the mail in the inbox. In the preferences menu you can be changed actions when selecting an email. By default it opens in Gmail inbox, or change to open inbox in web browser or dismiss dialog.
Gripe Alert: unlike the popup feature of SMS Popup for text messages, Gmail Popup does not popup past the lock then sleep after a short while. It wakes the phone screen to alert you an email came in, however you must unlock the phone to see the popup. There are no reply features directly from the app or notification settings.
Gmail Popup is great for quickly glancing at your Gmail sender and subject lines without opening the app entirely.

Should you Download Gmail Popup? It has huge potential, with a few more feature enhancements it will be awesome. Would suggest checking out the free version to see if the paid version suits your needs.

Thanks very much for the review! I just wanted to let you know that I have released a new version which allows the user to set it up so it unlocks the screen when the popup is shown. It also supports several Gmail accounts on Android 2.1+ and has a couple of other new customization options.
This is a great little app, it makes my phone much more usable. The popups are a little unreliable, as is the interaction with gmail. About 1 in 3 messages or so, I get no notification. Sometimes the phone screen wakes up when the popup triggers, sometimes it doesn’t. Sometimes when I delete the message through gmail popup, it seems to be deleted from my inbox (according to the gmail android app it is gone as well) but when I log into gmail it is still there and the gmail unread message notifier feature in LauncherPro continues to show the message as unread.
In short, I love the features of this app, but it has some kinks to work out still.
As for things I would change:
The interface needs a better way to delete messages more intuitively versus going to the inbox. Tapping a message should obviously display the message in question but there should also be a big immediate option to delete it or ignore it (leave it unread).
Add an option for the notification repeat feature so it will only repeat X times. Repeating is great, repeating forever just drains the battery eventually. If you haven’t noticed it after 10 repeats or something, you’re probably not going to.
Awesome work though.
I was super excited to hear about this gmail app because I have been having so many issues with my regular email on my driod phone. Lets hope this one works!!!
Unfortunately since the update, things have gotten worse. The interface is no longer simple and easy to use as shown in the screenshots above. It now has annoyingly slow and hard to hit buttons all over, and has lost the super great ‘tap the preview to do X’ feature. It also fails to notify properly if you receive more than one message in a few moments, fails to delete properly if you mark more than one message for deletion, and worst of all, force crashes on unlock when you get messages while the phone is locked (screen is off).
Ugh, it went from a great little tool I found indispensable to a serious problem for my phone.
Tried uninstalling, rebooting, redoing the setup etc. No change.
