Get the Nut is a massively challenging yet enjoyable puzzle game where you help a squirrel collect nuts. Avoid baddies and use mice to make your way to the acorn on each level. Gameplay takes place on a grid landscape where you have to meticulously roll your squirrel and other critters around to make safe passage to your treasure. It’s very tricky, in places very tricky, but a must-try for puzzle fans.

Pros & Cons:
Pros
- Smooth graphics with cute characters!
- Addictive!
- Challenging!
Cons
- Quite a steep learning curve.
Features:
Get The Nut is a logic-based puzzle where you have to carefully manoeuvre Squirrely to the acorn. Avoid a host of baddies who will eat you including wolves, bears and warthogs as you roll your way to your goal. There are mice too which can be used as bolsters and *cough* sacrifices to the bigger animals. While the game is cute, it’s all about survival!
So, deep in the woods Squirrely is collecting acorns. You move him by rolling him in the direction you want him to move. He’ll keep rolling until something stops him; this might be the acorn itself, a mouse, a tree or- if you’re really unlucky, a warthog. The forest is organised into a kind of grid so you have to roll vertically and horizontally. The game becomes challenging when you have to carefully move Squirrely and the other creatures strategically around the forest to allow a safe path.

I felt the game had a pretty steep learning curve- even the Easy levels were tough at times. It’s often about logically being able to work out how, who and where to move. It’s a very cute game but I think this might trouble smaller children. That said, there is always a way through and it’s fun working out the solution. The number of rolls you take are counted and, if you have been economic with them, you receive a higher nut rating (out of three, at the end of each level).

Fun Factor:
Solving a level is pretty enjoyable, as is completing a set of levels and unlocking the next. Add to this the cute gameplay and the reward you get from logically working out a solution in a minimum of moves, it’s lots of fun if you like these kinds of games.
Addictive:
There were times I got a little irritated with the game- a level looks preposterously difficult and I couldn’t see how it was possible! However, with a little patience I worked it and the path opened up. Somehow, and I can’t quite put my finger on exactly how, I kept playing and playing and playing. I’m not sure what, but there’s something about this game that makes it rather hard to put down!
Graphics:
The graphics are cute, smooth and nicely animated. There’s nothing revolutionary here and there are certainly better visualized games, but Get The Nut still looks great.
Accelerometer, Vibration & Sound:
The sound effects are very good and suit the game and it’s themed very well. The music is pretty good too although it might be a little too chirpy for some gamers.
