Geocaching is a high-tech treasure hunting game played throughout the world by adventure seekers equipped with GPS devices. The basic idea is to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, outdoors and then share your experiences online.
Have you wanted to do a treasure hunt like The Goonies when you where a kid? Well, geocaches allows you to fulfill those fantasies to a degree by allowing you to use a GPS device or for our interest your Android device to find the hidden goodies (well… at least this is the exciting feel I get with the app). You can find a list of geocaches nearby and go explore and search a specific location. The app helps lead you to the geocache by taking advantage of Google Maps Navigation turn-by-turn directions or regular maps. Once in the vicinity you can turn on the compass to lead you in the right direction.
What’s really interesting is the large community who participate and leave messages and hints in the Logs. You can even log into your Geocaching.com account with the app. Additionally, Groundspeak offers, Pocket Queries, a premium application add-on. Which allow users to access geocache information when out of cell phone range, so that they can go geocaching anywhere in the world, at any time.
