Gameloft Redeemth. Offering Let’s Golf HD Free to HTC Evo and Nexus One Phones

Remember we told you when Gameloft was offering 10 HD game titles for high end Android phones outside the Android Market, then had to report none of the games were actually downloadable due to distribution and coordination issues thus pulling the website access. Well now they are redeeming themselves, sorta… by offering an HD title, Let’s Golf, absolutely free to owners of HTC Evo and Nexus One Android phones.

Let’s Golf HD, as well as Gameloft’s other HD games on Android, take full advantage of the impressive touch screen and processing power of the HTC EVO 4G and Nexus One. Let’s Golf HD can be downloaded at the below links for a limited time only from these Android phones:

UPDATE: This is U.S. only. :( It’s seems Gameloft is pulling a switch-a-roo on us and visiting the links on your Android phone leads you to  page to buy the game. However, for now at least, you can visit the below links on your desktop to enter your phone number to receive a text message to start the download process mentioned below. :(

HTC EVO 4G: http://www.gameloft.com/android/htc-evo-games
Nexus One: http://www.gameloft.com/android/nexus-one-games

Note: these two links are to an app to download and install which only redirects you back to the mobile web page to download the game. Once you find the link lower on the page, click that to actually download and install the game. To install Android apps outside the Android Market be sure you’ve enabled the setting by going to Settings » Applications » check “Unknown sources” and agree to the popup. Last thing, once installed the app needs to save 157MB of data to your SD card and doing so over Wi-Fi speeds up the download.

is this US only? There is no free download link on the lower page (using the N1), though I’ve changed my location from Germany to USA. :(

OK, what am I missing here. On my N1 I clicked on the appropriate link which takes me to their site where I’m seeing the golf game for $5. There is no link or information anywhere on their site (that I can find) for a free download of this game. Anybody else had better luck?

They changed it this morning, see the update above because you now have to do it from the desktop and not from 2 phones mentioned.

Help! I can’t get this to work, and it seems like such a nice gift =)

OK I may be part of the problem here but I’m trying to work around my issues. I’ve got a Nexus One running 2.2 so I used the correct link but I can’t see anything to download the game for free. I’ve followed the links right through to the check out and it still wants me to pay???

    I know, how rude!

So for the bits that may be an issue on my side:
    1. I am in China with a Chinese SIM
    – since you can’t get paid apps here in China I used my NZ SIM as a work-around
    http://www.androidtapp.com/how-to-buy-android-apps-in-countries-that-dont-support-paids-apps/
    2. I was also wondering if the game wouldn’t ship to a Chinese proxy so I tried using the link through me US VPN, but still no go

    Any other thoughts or ideas?

Thanks for the website by the way I love it!

It seems we have some more clunky operations going on again with Gameloft as they limited to US and changed how the above links work, see the update above.

Downloaded the game for my EVO no problem this morning. Unfortunately, after a few holes it makes my phone reboot. Not a bad game, but useless if it won’t run correctly. I did try uninstall and delete of the Gameloft folder on the SD Card, but still reboots my phone after re-installing.

Please pull this article. I’ve tried more than a few times over the past day to put have the download link sent to my phone and also followed the advice of this article to click on the direct download page.

    Nothing.

Don’t give GameLoft free press until they actually make good on it, or else you contribute to the problem.

‘TheAndroidWorks’ had a great promotion to offer their game ‘PhoneCharades’ and ‘PhoneFraze’ free for a few days over July 4th, and Glu mobile did so as well with ‘Super KO Boxing”. I’ve recommended those apps to other Android users.

GameLoft needs a better manager in place to coordinate mobile platforms. Maybe it’s something like nepotism or embarrassing photos that keep the current chump-in-charge in place…I don’t know. What I do know is that games from GameLoft are _extremely_ convoluted and confusing.

I have bought one game from them, and the promised SMS with the download link never appeared. Ever. They had the wits about them to also send an email receipt with a link so I could download the game I used my money to buy. I had to do a factory restore of my phone and am now unable to load the game because of the “This is not an original copy of…” message.

I have reached out to them about this issue and still waiting for a reply. I was not shocked at all when I put in my phone number into the link that I didn’t receive a text with download link. It’s par for the course. While I had the game, it was great. But getting it on my phone in the first place…and now getting what I bought after a restore, has been ridiculous and I’m telling people that are thinking about it to AVOID AVOID AVOID GAMELOFT till this garbage gets figured out.

Removing the article is not smart for a few reasons; some people have had success with the convoluted and ever changing at the blow of the wind download process, and it shows a grand track record of Gameloft completely FAILING at this attempt of selling their games outside the Android Market.

They’re only shooting themselves in the foot with whatever they’re doing and soon no Android site will recommend their games, worst recommend boycotting, which will affect profits… hopefully changing how they go about things.

Touche. Is there _any_ rationale for keeping the games off the market?

And still haven’t received my SMS, of course.

This game is fun but really the game will not download over 4G! Why give a free game then make people turn off 4G? Dumb…
