FX Photo Editor – enhance your phone’s pictures by adding cool effects, themes, filters & more! Install

FX Photo Editor is an incredibly comprehensive picture editing tool. Whereas so many photo sharing and photo editing tools plump for a number of filters, some frames, a cropping tool etc, FX Photo Editor offers this and a whole lot more. Intuitive, resourceful and packed full of features, it’s the perfect app if you like to tweak your snaps.

AndroidTapp.com Android App Review:

Pros & Cons:

Pros

  • Vast resources of customizable effects, themes, filters, textures and edits!
  • Incredibly easy to use, step-by-step photo enhancement!
  • By utilizing sliders for opacity and effects, the pictures are far more customizable that merely having filters!
  • Features Time matrix!

Cons

  • UI isn’t as slick as other photo apps.
  • Lacks tilt-shift (although the developer has a separate tilt shift app).
  • Sharing didn’t always work for me, although you can just save and share from gallery.

Features:

There are literally hundreds of photo editing apps available in the Google Play Store, some are really good, others are relatively poor. The ones that have stood out to me have been an unrivalled trilogy of Streamzoo, Lightbox Photos and Pixlr-o-matic. These each present a load of useful filters, effects and edits and are a joy to use. The UI in each is also very slick and polished. They are arguably the most popular of the photo editing/sharing apps and, until Instagram is released, remain the go-to apps for people who want to enhance their pictures. For me, however, FX Photo Editor is now right up there with them.

OK, firstly, I wasn’t actually that impressed with the user interface. It works well enough but compared to Pixlr-o-matic and Lightbox Photos it’s pretty average. This aside however, FX Photo editor is incredible. There are a vast array of ways to edit your photographs. There are filters, themes, vignettes, frames and basic colour adjustments to start with but then you have a very cool ‘Time matrix’ which lets you date the look of pictures however you like.

The beauty behind all of these effects is the inclusion of an opacity slider. You can intricately tweak the level of each effect you add, creating a palette of literally thousands of potential combinations and looks. There is a really useful ‘Compare’ button too so you can see the picture before and after the effect has been added. Using the app is incredibly intuitive and the different effects and stages are along the bottom, making it very easy to use.

I wasn’t expecting it to, but I was pretty blown away by FX Photo Editor! It doesn’t look as good as other photo editing apps, but it is head and shoulders above them in terms of functionality. Some of the effects are limited in the free version of the app, but, if you’re serious about photo editing on your Android device it’s definitely worth checking out.

Usefulness:

Perfect for enhancing photos, there are so many tweaks and effects contained even in the free version of FX Photo Editor that it’s hugely useful for anyone who likes to take pictures on their Android. There’s just such a wealth of things to try out in the app that it’s a great tool to play with.

Ease of Use:

Navigation is 99% simple and very intuitive. Occasionally I found a picture wouldn’t clear properly after being saved and I had to leave the app and start again, but this aside it is incredibly easy to use. The inclusion of the ‘Compare’ button really shows you what changes you are making to the picture.

Frequently Used:

This will depend on the user. There’s more than enough settings and enhancements here to use the app regularly and not get bored, or have lots of pictures looking the same. I like taking pictures on my device so tend to use apps like this quite a lot.

Interface:

The interface isn’t as highly polished as apps like Lightbox Photos and it doesn’t have the slick design of other photo editing tools such as Pixlr-o-matic, but FX Photo Editor remains proficient and straightforward, leaving its sheer volume of effects and editing capabilities to WOW users, rather than UI. That said, I should stress that the interface isn’t bad, it’s just not as refined as other applications.

Should you Download FX Photo Editor? FX Photo Editor is a fine photo enhancement tool that every Android photographer should check out. It might not look as slick as other apps but it packs a real punch in terms of what it can do. Packed to the rafters with very cool editing tools, effects, borders and heaps more, definitely check it out. The slightly limited free version is a great place to start, but you get much more with the full version.
