Features:
Fruit Ninja is one of those unique witty fantastic cross platform games however often duplicated. Fruit Ninja is a slicing game, where you have various types of fruits tossed up, the object is to slice each of them in half without letting any of them fall past the bottom of the screen, and not hitting any of the obstacles like bombs. Depending on the game mode, the obstacles are bombs that either deduct 10 seconds off your available play time, or end your game completely.
The three game modes are Classic, Arcade and Zen. In Classic, the bombs will end your game immediately, as well allowing three fruit to get past you un-sliced. The object here is to get as high a score as you can. It gets progressively harder the longer you play, with more fruit on the screen, along with more bombs, at any given time.
In Arcarde mode, it’s a similar concept, expect here, you have a set period of time to earn as many points as you can. If you hit a bomb here, you loose ten seconds of that time, rather than have a complete game over. Also, in Arcade mode, there are various Bonus Bananas, which will give you various perks, such as my personal favorite, a temporary Fruit Frenzy that results in a slew of fruit on screen for several seconds of slicing pleasure. In this mode, if you have OpenFeint friends who also play, you’ll see where you rank compared to them when you get your final score after each round. The high scores reset each week, giving you an incentive to go back in and get high scores.
Zen mode is exactly that – no bombs. Again, this is a timed mode, but there’s nothing here you have to avoid, so you can just slice to your heart’s content.
In addition to seeing your friend rankings via OpenFeint, you can also unlock various achievements. There are quite a few of them, and some are harder to get than others. If you like earning trophies instead of high scores, this is definitely a nice perk, and adds another layer into the game to keep you coming back.
I love the witty tips and food for thought factoids you learn about fruit featured in the game; such as “Bananas are high in the B-Complex vitamins, which help calm the nervous system.”, “In some parts of the world, trained monkeys are used to harvest coconuts!”, “There are approximately 10,000 varieties of apples grown around the world”, “A plum’s skin is well known for having a laxative effect.”, or “The second most popular mango variety grown in Australia is ‘Rzez’!”.

Fun Factor:
I don’t know why slicing fruit is so much fun, but the visceral sound it makes, along with the virtual splatter of fruit on your background just is. And when you add in various achievements to unlock, as well as new swords and backgrounds to use, it makes for a very compelling package.
Addictive:
Oh, this is a seriously addictive game. I couldn’t put it down for a solid week after first installing it, and managed to get several other people hooked as well so I would have high scores to try and beat. Even now, months after I first discovered it, this is one of the few games that never gets uninstalled from my phone. There is just something alluring about slicing those fruit.
Graphics:
The graphics are a nice mix of cartoon and “ninja”. The Sensei who show up at the end of each round to tell you your progress, give you advice and quote random fruit facts is cute, and the fruit itself is real enough looking in that cartoony way that you always know what it is you’re currently slicing. You won’t mistake, for example, a pineapple for an orange. I also really like that you can unlock different backgrounds to change up the look of the game play, as well as different sword effects, each with their own unique slashing animation.
Accelerometer, Vibration & Sound:
The soundtrack to the game is a high-energy track that sounds like what you would hear in a ninja movie, so it fits perfect here. Again, it has an almost cartoony feel, but doesn’t go quite so far as to make it seem cheesy. It’s a perfect balance.
