Froggy Jump is a simple jumping game, the gameplay of which will be very familiar to the many Android users who have played games like Mega Jump, Hyper Jump and Abduction!. While the game is not as graphically plush in terms of resolution as many of its competitors, it swiftly makes up for it in the fact it has a whole host of extras, themes, bonuses and customizations.
Price: Free
Tested on: HTC Desire HD
Content Rating: Everyone
Pros & Cons:
Pros
- Huge amount of customizations: buy in-game clothes and items for Froggy and his journey skyward.
- Highly addictive gameplay.
- Easy to play- tilting either left or right, plus tap the screen to launch the space rocket bonus.
- Various themes to unlock such as ‘Infernal’ and ‘Underwater’.
- Openfeint scoring and achievements.
- Collectables: letters, coins, gems.
- Planets named after successful users.
Cons
- Irritating sounds.
- Graphics are relatively poor compared with other similar games.
Features:
Froggy needs your help in getting to space. Anyone who has played games such as Abduction! Will know just how this works; simply tilt from side to side and make sure you hit those platforms to move up, miss one and it’s a helluva long way down! Personally, I had never really noticed how busy the sky was, but in Froggy Jump it’s inhabited by all manner of baddies, gems, coins, aliens, balloons, rockets and mushrooms to name just a few. Some of these help Froggy’s journey, some will send him plummeting to Earth with a bump. Some platforms crumble or break under our little amphibian’s weight and some will boost him higher and higher. Especially helpful are the rockets, get one of those and Froggy can ride it for a while, which helps enormously.
The customization options are whether Froggy Jump really comes into it’s own. It doesn’t have the graphics of some other similar games, but the provision of a shop function in the game makes Froggy Jump a different proposition altogether. Save up gems in the game and you can buy a host of different items, accessories, costumes, outfits, hats and boosters. I think this is where Froggy Jump excels, the range of extras here is great and allows you to customise your Froggy however you want. Items are bought using the gems you collect in the game- more gems can be ‘bought’ via familiar methods such as downloading other games (free and $) as well as performing other little tasks that fall under ‘in-game marketing’. It’s not too intrusive and you can earn plenty of gems to dress your frog.
There are, for me, two small issues with the game. Firstly, the graphics are not as smoking hot as some of the competition. For example Froggy Jump looks like a far uglier younger brother to say, Mega Jump. Secondly, it’s takes a lot to like the sounds. Froggy’s little quips are perennially annoying and made me just want to turn the sound off. It’s not cute or endearing. Saying this, I am an adult- children might find him utterly enchanting. Personally, it turned me on to the idea of immediately heading to a French restaurant and trying ‘cuisses de grenouilles’ (Frogs legs!).
If you can see round these little issues, I’m sure you will love this game. It’s a genuine challenge and has so many extras there that you could find yourself getting quite addicted. Despite my complaints, I enjoyed the game and though the added features were a real bonus in gameplay.

Fun Factor:
The game is a lot of fun to play and I am certain it will find many fans both adults and children alike. With all the extras there is always something new to find, buy or unlock so it will keep you wanting to come back for more.
Addictive:
Massively. You will need to make sure you set some time aside for this one as it needs Kermit-ment (sorry).
Graphics:
The graphics are a bit of let down as already mentioned, there are games available that are far superior. Saying that, the little animations work and the lack of beauty doesn’t detract from the compelling game play.
Accelerometer, Vibration and Sound:
You need to use the accelerometer to move little Froggy around- from side to side to make him reach those platforms as he moves ever sky-ward. This works absolutely fine and I found it very accurate. The sound, as I have mentioned, isn’t so great and lets the game down a little.
