AndroidTapp.com Android App Review:

Pros & Cons:

Pros

  • One place to store literally all your information in one place, including reward cards, credit cards, pin numbers, passwords, etc.

Cons

  • Password hint is always on the login page
  • Unless you remember to go into the menu to lock the app, or let the phone lock while the app is at the front, it will let you in without the password. So if you forget to lock, and someone picks up your phone, they can go in and see all the information you have stored there. Counter-productive! :(
  • The Add New option has so many choices it’s almost overwhelming

eWallet Go is an all-in-one wallet for Android. It allows you to store everything from reward card numbers to credit cards to insurance information, and more.

Features:

This is an “all in one” app that allows you to store almost every important number, like credit cards, insurance, etc., in one place on your phone. It’s a great idea, but in practice, it’s almost too much information.

Under the “add a new card” menu option, there are 29 options. They range from credit cards to prescriptions to insurance numbers, to voter card information. When you first open it up, unless you already have a solid idea of exactly what you want to store in the app, trying to decide what to put in isn’t easy. It’s option overload. Of course, on the flip side, having all those templates ready to go, if you are planning to store all that information in one place, makes it easier than trying to input it all starting with a blank slate. The other problem is that all that information has to be typed in manually. If you do plan to store all of that information in the app, getting it all is a very time-consuming process.

You can use pre-made categories such as Personal and Business to make finding your information easier, and you can also add your own, for example keeping a file of each member of your household, with their insurance information, emergency contacts, even clothing sizes all together.

The auto-lock feature will lock the app down if you get a call or lock the screen while inside the app. However, if you leave the app without locking it, when you go in again it will still be open. This makes me a bit nervous when it comes to storing so much sensitive information, especially when, if you use it to it’s fullest potential, it’s your entire life, neatly categorized. I also really don’t like that the password hint is always on the main page. If you do loose your phone, this just makes it that much easier for someone to figure out how to get into the program and access the data stored there.

Usefulness:

If you’re looking for an all-in-one app to store every important piece of information in one place, this is a great choice. If you just want a place to keep a few passwords, this might be overkill.

Ease of Use:

It is very easy to figure out and use, and everything is well-marked and explained.

Frequently Used:

If you use it as your digital wallet, you’ll use it multiple times every day.

Interface:

The interface is super-easy to use, and the ability to categorize everything makes finding and sorting your information a breeze.

Should you Download eWallet GO!? If you’re looking for a digital wallet, this is a fantastic product and yes, you should grab it. If you’re not looking for something this comprehensive, however, this might not be the product for you. I also have some concerns with the lock down of the information, so I’m not sure I would trust it with everything quite yet. This is one to watch though, since it has a LOT of potential.

I have been using KeePassDroid along with KeePass on the desktop and Dropbox to keep my personal information synced. I can use the desktop to enter most of the data. The file is stored in a DropBox folder and synced between the phone, web and my various PCs.

To create templates, I use the the “Entry Templates for KeePass”. This works very well for creating the templates on the desktop. The biggest problem with this setup is that the keepassdroid open the 2.0 files only as readonly. So I can only edit the 1.x files.

If eWalletGo had a corresponding desktop client as well, it would make things a lot easier.

Hi! Marc from Ilium Software here. Thanks for the great review Toni. Glad you liked the app.

One thing I wanted to clarify is that the app does lock when in the background. It just remains open for 5 minutes before locking. This exists because a lot of folks like to copy and paste usernames and passwords to their browser (if you tap and hold on a field you can do this). If it locked the minute you left the app, you’d have to unlock every time you went back. By waiting 5 minutes, the app remains secure BUT gives you the ability to move between eWallet GO! and other apps without re-entering the password every single time.

To Milind: We actually have a desktop client for eWallet GO! You can use the backup and restore function to move data between the platforms. The Windows version is available now on our website and the Mac version will be out soon.

      Thanks again for the review!

Huh, then maybe I just found a glitch or a bug. I actually was using it and forgot to lock the app and went out to do other things, and when I went back the following day to play a bit more with it, it was unlocked and took me straight into the app. I’ll have to play with it a bit more and see if I can pinpoint a little closer what’s preventing it from locking automatically for me then!

It is a great app, and I’m looking forward to seeing where you go with it!

Can this accept minisafe output? Ever since moving off of Blackberry, I’ve felt orphaned since minisafe never ported their app to Android.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t have an import function, although we are working on a solution for moving data over from other apps. In the meantime, drop out support folks a line ( http://www.iliumsoft.com/contactus) . I’m sure they’d be happy to help! They might have a solution for you.

If you’re accepting suggestions for apps to import from, I’d love to see a way to port over all the information I have in Key Ring Rewards. Right now, that’s the one I have all my rewards cards and member numbers stored in, and I’d pull them all over and make the switch permanently if I could import instead of having to hand-key all those numbers in again.
