Features:
Drop the Star is an amusing physics game for Android similar to A Monsters Ate My Homework. The object of the game is to destroy the various platforms that the star is standing on and cause the star to drop safely to the platform underneath it. Drop the Star features 8 different stages with over 120 levels, power ups, a realistic physics system, a detailed help section, and a relaxing soundtrack to compliment the stimulating and challenging gameplay.
While playing, the less platforms you need to destroy in order to get the star on to the landing pad the more points that you will score for the level. As you progress through the game the puzzles become more difficult with more and more objects underneath the star and with less and less space on the landing platform. This is where the game becomes difficult and forces you to consider all of your moves carefully.
The physics engine for Drop the Star is excellent and makes every drop mimic “real life” as close as possible. When the star drops with two circular platforms beneath it on an incline the star and the platform it rests on begins to roll. If you destroy one platform that supports the star before another, even a little bit, the star begins to fall in the direction of the first destroyed platform. The game is surprisingly challenging due to this fact that many levels require you to destroy multiple objects almost simultaneously.
Since it is impossible to destroy multiple objects at the same time in the real world; the game also includes power-ups! These can be purchased at the store with points earned for completing the various levels. There are three different power-ups: Freeze, Slow Motion, and Cheater. The Freeze power-up freezes all of the objects on the playing field until you either destroy two objects or wait 15 seconds. The slow motion power up slows down the falling of all of the objects and the star until the slow motion counter counts down to zero, and the cheater power up prevents the destroyed object counter from counting, allowing you to get the maximum score on any level just by completing it.
Drop the Star has 1 world, 8 stages, and 15 levels per stage packing a lot of content into a single free game. Each of the levels becomes more and more challenging as you progress through the game, and even has a detailed help section built in. The help section provides information about all of the power-ups, how to use the store, and gives a basic tutorial on how to play the game. I was extremely pleased with the amount of content and helpful information that was packaged with the game from the get go.

Fun Factor:
It was both challenging and enjoyable to play. With over 120 levels the game had more then enough content to keep you entertained, and it did not require long periods of play time. Instead, this is a game that you can play at your own leisure; as much or as little as you like. The physics engine was extremely realistic and presented a formidable challenge on many of the levels plus the graphics and sound effects were very good for this type of game. The only thing that I think would make this game more enjoyable and addictive would be OpenFeint achievement system support.
Addictive:
Drop the Star is a very addictive game. With the multitude of levels while each level increases in difficulty over the past levels. There are many times in the game where you will be forced to use power-ups just in order to be able to pass through the level. Due to the enjoyable gameplay and challenging content you will keep coming back for more. I also greatly appreciate that this game can be played as much or as little as you would like. The only change I would make to it in order to increase its addictiveness would be to add in OpenFeint support.
Graphics:
The graphics for are very good, especially for the large amount of content that is included within the game. I did find that the animations and screen transitions could be sluggish at times even with my Xperia Play’s Adreno GPU and 1GHz processor. It also would be good to see three dimensional modeling included with this game in order for it to compete with games like “A Monsters Ate My Homework,” but I would still say that the graphics in this game were significantly above average.
Accelerometer, Vibration & Sound:
Drop the Star makes no use of either vibration or your device’s accelerometer. I see no use for either to be incorporated into the game, and I was very pleased with the soundtrack. The sounds were very Wii-like and the music was peaceful and enjoyable very fitting for the game environment.
