AndroidTapp.com Android App Review:

Pros & Cons:

Pros

  • Watch and Record TV shows on your Android device
  • Watch full HD 480p resolution video (which can be played from SD card)
  • Virtual DVR, automatically record your favorite episodes plus shows can be watched offline
  • Set Droid TV to only sync over Wi-Fi (great for cellular data caps)
  • Hundreds of episodes (including major TV networks)
  • Can store unlimited shows on virtual DVR

Cons

  • Not all devices compatible due to low resolution
  • Limited content, more episodes would be great

Droid TV is by far one of the best ways to watch hundreds of episodes all on your Android device. It givers users full HD 480p resolution video, the ability to watch your shows off your SD card and much more for free or a subscription price.

Features:

Droid TV is my favorite way to record and watch my shows all off my myTouch4G. Now matter where I am I can watch my shows with no difficultly at all. It gives you the ability to automatically record your favorite episodes, store the shows on your SD card, and unlimited storage on your own Virtual DVR.

One of my favorite features of Droid TV is the ability to store my shows on the SD card so I can watch them regardless if I have a data connection or not. Another bonus of these feature is that if you have a data cap or a limit on the amount of data you have a month then you can set it to only sync over Wi-Fi so you will not use all you data.

I have really enjoyed using this application. Many of the other apps like Droid TV do not give as much choice for such a small amount of money. The subscription is only $8.99 for six months worth of your favorite shows. That is cheaper than even Netflix and Hulu.

Now while I think this is one of the best applications on the markets it does have a limited amount of my type of shows but the variety is still quite nice. Hopefully in time they will be able to add more shows to their application to make it stay the best on the market.

Usefulness:

I find Droid TV to be a very useful application. It is a great way to kill time while waiting at doctor offices, while traveling (as long as you aren’t driving and watching, of course) and many other places. If you have an Android tablet, the larger display makes killing a few ticks convenient when not in front of the tube.

Ease of Use:

Very easy to use. Just download Droid TV open it up and check out the shows they have available and started watching or set it to record. Note: DroidTV supports most Android phones and tablets with a screen resolution of at least 480×800, a 1GHz processor, Android OS v2.1 and later and an external Secure Digital (SD) memory card with at least 2GB of free space.

Frequently Used:

I use this application about once a day. I love being able to watch shows no matter where I might be. Depending on how often you watch shows on your Android device will determine how frequently Droid TV is used.

Interface:

The interface is clean and simple. You can easily tell which shows are available to non-subscription and subscription services. It is very easy to maneuver throughout the application and record and play your favorite shows.

Should you Download Free, $8.99? If you love being able to watch your favorite shows no matter where you maybe than this is definitely the app for you. You can watch shows regardless if you have a data connection or not since they are stored on the SD card. Head to the Android Market and check out the Free version of Droid TV before getting the subscription.

    420p != “full HD”

Actually, 480p is the lowest resolution that is considered HD by the ATSC. 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080p, and 1080i are all considered HD, although 480 is sometimes refered to as ED (Enhanced Definition).

Does droid tv work on a tablet????

Yes. DroidTV supports all tablets that use Android v2.2 and higher.

NOTE: The Galaxy Tab has a bug that causes it to not use the full screen, but we have a video describing how to correct that for anyone that has this problem. Send email to support@mydroidtv.com for help.

Although what you are asking for is not technically supported, it happens to work. The files are stored in the PVR folder on the SD card. The videos are stored as *.vid files, but they are really standard MP4 files. They can be copied to the PC and renamed as *.mp4 for viewing.

I downloaded this app and it didn’t work on my phone. So I tried to use the “refund” button which did nothing, so now I’m going in circles with the people to get my money back. They are ridiculous.

Where on this app do you actually download shows for future viewing. I see the ability to record one of the shows list (which appear to be current), but I want to download previous seasons as well for Mad Men.

You can now download the free trial version of DroidTV from Amazon at http://www.amazon.com/PVRCom-LLC-DroidTV/dp/B00BZI59TS. It will replace your old copy, if you aren’t on v5.0 yet, but your subscription will stay in force. If you haven’t already installed, you will get a free 14-day trial for the full DroidTV Primetime subscription as well.

Hi, been using product since my first android phone in 2010 (Galaxy S Vibrant) Found it on Amazon store a few days ago and it works like a dream on my Note 2. I want to get the paid version but my problem is that your app auto downloads to my phone’s memory by default and not the external SD card. This is a deal breaker coz I don’t want the files on my phone’s memory. Also, I can not locate the files on my phone (this was an issue even on my Vibrant). I would like the option to be included in an update to either locate files to be moved to external SD or just make it the default and NOT save to phone’s memory at all. Until this is resolved, I will not sign up for a subscription service.

DroidTV automatically uses the external SD memory if your device allows it to. Unfortunately, some devices, especially from Samsung, Acer, and ASUS, do not allow storing recorded episodes on the external SD memory. This is in accordance with the new standard from Google, but “wastes” the external memory for these types of uses.
