doubleTwist Player… alas may very well be the benchmark of what an Android music player should be! It’s sleek, it’s sexy, it syncs with your iTunes library or MP3′s stored on SD Card. The app offers your typical music player features including stop & resume during calls, repeat options, shuffle, play queue, set a song as ringtone, and of course play music in the background while you open other apps.
We’ve missed this in the past in reviewing a few other music players for Android, but the if you have wired earbuds that control music or phone calls, this app works flawlessly with it. We’ve seen other apps invoke the default music player when you toggle those controls, thus playing two different music apps. ![]()
P.S. future features will include the ability to wirelessly sync media and online radio.
Gripe Alert: I’m sure they’ll change this soon, but the app does not read music stored on internal memory storage which casts out HTC Incredible owners as it only reads music from SD Card for now.
If you listen to tunes on your Droid you’ll love this app, if you already use doubleTwist on the desktop you’ll appreciate this app even more as it integrates not only your desktop media, but iTunes playlists, plus the desktop & web experiences already integrates full Android Market search for Android apps.
doubleTwist Player operates and looks in our opinion as the default Android music player should. To sync your iTunes playlist it’s matter of plugging in the device and interact with the doubleTwist desktop software to manage playlists, audio and video podcasts. Tip: tap the album art cover to show or hide track rating feature.
This could be a good candidate for replacing your other music players for Android!
As mentioned the user interface is sleek, simple and sexy. The buttons are enlarged which are easy to operate.

“We’ve seen other apps invoke the default music player when you toggle those controls, thus playing two different music apps.”
Almost every music app has a setting that allows the user to turn off headset button functions. Simply disengage this setting on the opposing app and voila.
I’d also like to point out that this app is nowhere near “full featured”. Sure it looks pretty because it apes iPods/iTunes, but you have to do more than look the part. The most serious disappointment is the lack of searching by “Genre”. This is a core element of ipod UI. So far the only apps that allow this are Mixzing and Meridian. I prefer and use Mixzing because the interface is simpler and cleaner. It also just received an update which allows swiping the screen for no-look track advancing. This is something I really missed while driving with my ipod classic.
My 2cents
so does mixzing sync with itunes as easily?
and though this has no horizontal does mixzing?
I have a Droid Incredible and this app works great. People seriously need to buy an sd card with their phone.
Here’s a con you might have missed – no landscape view. I won’t be using the DT player in my car dock until this gets corrected.
Is this a beta?
My only gripe is the size of the app; 2MB. I’m using Desire that have yet to have Froyo, so the size really bugs me.
This is a good app for movies. The default apps are not the best. I hope android will start to set default apps the most popular free apps in every area. Else, they will become the second windows, promoting their browser, their media player even they are all wrong.
This program was a complete nightmare for me. It wouldn’t transfer most of the Itunes music I purchased because they were copy protected. It wouldn’t transfer all my videos or pics. It also kept locking up on me and had to close. I uninstaled it but I think there are parts of the files still on my laptop. Complete disaster for me.
I downloaded the app to my droid x and comp. I was able to transfer my music from itunes to the double twist player, but when i tried to transfer to my droid, it would list the song title but not the artist or album? anyone else have this problem? Am I doing something wrong?
I wish they didn’t try so hard to make it look like iTunes. I hate iTunes and I don’t want to copy it. I don’t want it to look like a “wanna-be iTunes” I want something BETTER than iTunes that will work with my (better than iPhone) Android phone.
Having said that, the desktop software sucks. It does not allow you to edit song info or search for album artwork. I have like five albums by random artists that show up as “Unknown” in Double Twist and on my phone but when I edit all their details in my windows explorer all the correct info is there.
One under-reported but very handy feature is the ability to pause and skip tracks from the lock screen. This means that you can press the power button, then the trackball (on a Nexus One) to pause the track, without needing to look at what you’re doing. If you’re driving or have the phone in your pocket, this is amazingly convenient!
The desktop version on Windows, however, is buggy and. so. incredibly. slow. I’ve had to crash-stop it several times because it just locks up.
However, when it’s working, it does the job and the wireless sync is great, as long as you do it when you’re not in a hurry to leave!
