AndroidTapp.com Android Game Review:

Pros & Cons:

Pros

  • Very cute graphics!
  • Fishing is smooth and easy to navigate!
  • You have things to work toward, like trophies and upgrades!

Cons

  • I had force close issues when I tried to take advantage of free coin offers in the game.
  • Unless you read the app description, you really have no idea what the dinosaur is for.
  • The ads floated in the middle of the screen for me, providing a real distraction from the game.

Features:

Doraemon Fishing 2 is an iPhone port that is actually has done pretty well. The game ran, for the most part, very smoothly. I had some force close issues when I tried to go into the store and click on the free coin offers, but in the game itself, I didn’t have any problems.

Gameplay is pretty simple. You choose your character – you get one by default, then can unlock the others with lots and lots of coins – and then you fish. You try to get your line all the way to the bottom of the screen, before it automatically pulls up. Or, if you hit a fish before then, it will reel it back up. As your line ascends, you try to catch as many fish as you can. The game is controlled by tilting your device back and forth.

As you play, you can unlock different types of fish, and you earn coins to unlock things like greater depths, faster lines, and longer boosts. You earn trophies for unlocking different fish, and some fish are worth more coins than others. On the screen, when you catch fish, there is a dinosaur that either the fish jump past, or gets hit in the head with a shoe. I’m fairly certain, after playing for a while, that I’m supposed to try and catch a specific type of fish to feed the dinosaur, but I never saw that fish type – it could be that I wasn’t deep enough, but since my upgrades were force closing, I couldn’t verify that. You also have to watch out for sharks, which will pull your character into the water, and you’ll lose all the fish you caught that turn.

Fun Factor:

The game is very cute, and it was fun for a while. I have to admit though, the repetitive nature of it got boring fairly quickly to me. Until you earn enough coins to start upgrading, you only have a small number of fish and possibilities, so you’re doing the same thing over and over, trying to earn coins. It was fun at first, but to be honest, I lost interest pretty fast.

Addictive:

I can see why it would be an addictive game for some people. It is kind of like a solitaire game, where you can play for long stretches of time to earn coins and advance your character. So I’d put this on the mid-level of the addiction scale.

Graphics:

The graphics are unbelievably cute. The characters, styling and overall look and feel of the whole app is very anime, and it works well here. It’s the kind of graphics that make you smile, just opening up the app.

Accelerometer, Vibration & Sound:

The accelerometer is how you control your fishing line, and I was impressed by how well it worked. I had pretty fine control over my fishing line, especially after a few practice runs. The soundtrack went right along with the anime look and feel, and really fit the game well.

Should you Download Doraemon Fishing 2? Overall, this is a really cute, and fun game. The force close issues took away from it a bit, limiting what I had reliable access to, in addition to it being quite repetitive and may not have longevity, which is why I rated the game down a bit. But it’s worth checking out and testing on your device to see how it runs.

When the fish flies up, you’re supposed to try to flick them to the dino so that he could eat them, and flick shoes away when they appear.
