Defense Zone 2 HD is a blisteringly rendered and action-stuffed tower defense game for Android. While the game system essentially consists of a solid tower-defense model; strategically place towers, with loads of maps, increasingly- tough enemies, three levels of difficulty, tower upgrades and even air strikes, for me it was all about playing such a game with startlingly detailed graphics. Seriously, it’s like playing a TD game using the aerial view of Google Maps…

- Intense sound effects!
- Addictive and fun gameplay!
Features:
Defense Zone 2 HD is a premium tower defense game with music, gameplay and graphics to die for. If you’ve never played a tower defense game (TD) before, it’s essentially a war game where you place towers in strategic positions on a map. Enemies will traverse the map and you have to ensure they don’t reach their goal. There are usually an assortment of towers which feature different types of weaponry and the games themselves vary from cutesy balloon popping in Bloons TD 5, menacingly futuristic Sentinel 3: Homeworld and the tower ‘offense’ game Anomaly Warzone Earth HD.
Defense Zone 2 HD certainly falls in the latter camp. Gameplay is brutal and detailed and, while the game has its fair share of futuristic weapons and effects, it remains incredibly realistic. The attention to detail is very high and the top-down map view is almost indistinguishable from a Google Maps satellite shot. So, if you like the games you play to be visually magnificent, this will suit you perfectly.
Another stand out feature, as far as I’m concerned anyway, is the sound. Not only do you have wonderfully created sound effects and battle noises, but the game also features several different music tracks which sear through the game and make everything so much more immersive. The authentic looking graphics take you some way into the game and the music compliments it intensively.
Watch on Mobile
There are some nine different towers in the game and each can be upgraded several times. When they hit a certain level of activity, they have a ‘Hellfire’ mode which can be entered. This, which is much like a kind of ‘berserker’ mode means fire is more rapid for a short period. Given enough action, if you have a number of towers in Hellfire mode, things get very bad for the enemies! If this wasn’t enough, you also have air strikes at your disposal. If you want to blanket wipe-out a strip of oncoming hostiles, this does the trick.
The game features great design and the learning curve is excellent. The three components of gameplay, graphics and sound click perfectly together to deliver a resolutely stunning experience of which is quite rare. Defense Zone 2 HD also features three levels of difficulty, so if you find it easy, up the level and take on more stubborn enemies. Now, it is a game you pay for, and it’s not cheap, but if you value genuine quality, the game is a snap even at $3.

Fun Factor:
I think you still need to like tower defense games to enjoy Defense Zone 2 HD but it’s a brilliant example of game design and exhilarating gameplay. As a big fan of the genre, I was swayed by the graphics and sound effects- it’s just brilliant fun to play through.
Addictive:
Heavily… if you let it. Games can be over quite quick (especially the early ones) but later levels are 10+ minutes, so it’s a game you perhaps need to put aside time to play, rather than a casual few minutes. There are 20 missions to wade through, plus those three different difficulty levels, so there’s lots to be getting on with.
Graphics:
The graphics are fantastic and I really don’t think the Google Maps comparisons are unwarranted. The environments you battle in are incredibly detailed and the action full of animation. Take, for example, the explosions which are strikingly realistic.
Accelerometer, Vibration & Sound:
The sound is very high quality too. You have a wide range of sound effects that compliments the vivid action, plus the game features several high quality musical scores too. I would say though that, due to the frenetic nature of the game, you might not notice the sound.
