AndroidTapp.com Android Game Review:

Pros & Cons:

Pros

  • A good first-person shooter for Android!
  • Three versions – a demo, a standard def and an HD version for maximum compatibility

Cons

  • Controlling the character is done in a small area, and is a bit hard to figure out at first.
  • Game backgrounds and textures get noticeably repetitive.

Features:

In Deadly Chambers, your character wakes up in a locked room being taunted by his captor, followed by monsters attacking you. The goal is to move through the rooms to find your way out. Along the way, there are a variety of things to unlock, including 18 different weapon types.

There are five levels that get progressively harder as you move through them, and one of my biggest and only issues with the game was that the rooms you move through get a little repetitive after a while. The monsters you fight get progressively harder, yes, but the scenery pretty much never changes. The same textures are used throughout the game, and after a while, you’re left wishing for something new.

I also found that I ran out of ammo rather quickly through the game, and was left running around a level trying to find where more might have dropped. With controls that aren’t always smooth, and monsters with ranged attacks that are difficult to avoid almost from the outset, this can get you killed very fast, which was frustrating. I would like to see, instead of just unlocking more weapons as you go, a way to unlock greater ammo capacity, or even an in-app purchase of something like unlimited ammo would be a nice option.

You can play the game in either third-person, which is the default, or first person camera angles, and both have their pros and cons. I tend to prefer third person myself since I like to see what’s going on around me, and in this case, I could see monsters spawning behind me more easily. However, in first person you have a bit better control over your aim, so it’s a trade off you’ll have to make for yourself based on your personal style of gameplay.

Fun Factor:

This game has a nice mix of story and gameplay, although getting used to the controls takes some work. Fortunately, the first levels are fairly easy to give you a chance to learn how to use them.

Addictive:

There are a variety of achievements to unlock, but like most story-driven games, once you finish the game, I’m not sure there’s enough content to go back for a second round. There are a variety of difficulties though, so if you do go back for more, you can increase the challenge.

Graphics:

The graphics in this game are gorgeous, if repetitive. It’s well done, and I like that the developers are offering two paid versions, so those with higher-quality screens can get a little extra oomph, but those who don’t aren’t locked out of playing the game at all. It runs very smooth, and while the game will automatically arrange the settings for what it perceives as the most optimal for your phone when you start it the first time, you can go in and tweak them.

Accelerometer, Vibration & Sound:

The developers really put some work into the game, and the soundtrack is no exception. It adds to the ambiance, and improves the overall feel of the game.
