DEAD TRIGGER – HD first-person shooter game, a Zombie massacre! Install

DEAD TRIGGER is an insane first person zombie shooter that makes you double-take whether it is a mobile game and not on a PS3 or Xbox. You’re in a post apocalyptic world where mindless zombies roam the lands and it’s your job to earn cash, find ammo and supplies and shoot your way to safety. Game developers, MADFINGER Games, really shines in the 3D graphics department, but there’s a few quirks in the game that may put some off. Explore this in-depth app review of DEAD TRIGGER with me to see exactly why and make your own decision!

Price: $0.99 Free, Plus In-app Purchases

Pros & Cons:

Pros

  • Stunning console quality 3D graphics, even more detail on a Tegra 3 device!
  • Zombie shoot ‘em up mayhem!

Cons

  • Poor game “threshold” makes in-app purchases mandatory in order to progress.
  • It would be cool to experience a storyboard or mission objectives rather than read them.
  • Poor response gaming controls.
  • Repetitive.

Features:

Zombies… who doesn’t love to take their unfiltered rage out on the undead?!? In DEAD TRIGGER, at the very minimum, you get to do just that! This is the much anticipated first person shooter game from MADFINGER Games whom wowed us with the SHADOWGUN series. They have certainly outdone themselves in the graphics arena, however, there are several let downs with the game. I’ll start with the bad and round back to all the game’s goodness. ;)

The Bad

To get you acquainted with game play you get to play a few rounds for free and blow some steam out on zombies. Once you reach a stable point, you better have enough cash on hand to purchase weapons and ammo as you’ll be forking over real cash with in-app purchases for upgrades. To be honest, it was not that bad, $0.99 minimum for $40K in the game can go a long way. I just personally feel the gaming “thresholds” should be a bit higher for the cheap seats or those who rather earn their way there. I’m pretty sure this problem happened to the minority, or at least I hope, however, after the introductory missions the game would not unlock missions on my Nexus 7. Nor would it apply in-app purchase credits (I ended up purchase a $40K pack three times and no dice). Furthermore, I picked up the game on my Galaxy S3, granted I logged into the game’s online account on both devices from the start and credits were not carried over. But the forth time purchasing credits was the charm… well actually because it was done on a new device.  Lesson, if you’re logged in, you should be able to pull of account info on any device.

A slight let down is the mission storyboards, you would think a game like this would at least narrate the mission objective or hints (like in SHADOWGUN) rather than make you read through them. As mentioned, this is no big deal, I just perceive it as this game was rushed to production and brushed over that detail. I would recommend you try to play with a game controller as the on-screen controls are not that responsive- though you can tweak them in the settings. The last of my gripes ends with how repetitive the game can get. Run around and blast zombies with bad @ss guns… rinse and repeat.

The Good

OK, now that the depressing stuff is out the way, and you don’t mind the quirks mentioned above; this is an awesome shooter game (in Bill & Ted’s voice)! I really like the headshots, plus sniper mode to really target a zombie from the distance, and if you get caught up by one you can fight and grapple your way out. You get an on-screen radar to get an idea of which direction they’re spawning from. This in only a 10 meter radius so be careful they don’t pop up on you, which is easy as you get distracted with blasting what’s in front of you. Other on-screen help includes your life meter, cash found, timer (if applicable), weapon type and ammo left, supplies, reload, sniper, and obviously fire.

Fun Factor:

Exploding the heads of the undead, ripping limbs, sniping, and gunning your way out of an out numbered hell can be quite fun… question is, for how long?

Addictive:

I think fans of action shooters will find this one addictive while the majority will not. It’s very repetitive and the novelty wears off pretty quickly.

Graphics:

Top notch! As boasted before, it’s some of the best we’ve seen on a phone. If you have a high end Android device it will render beautifully, however, if your have a Tegra 3 device; you get even more amazing atmosphere, shading and particle details. See the difference in this video.

Accelerometer, Vibration & Sound:

As you thwart through mazes you get to rock out to some cool metal tunes and chuckle at your hero’s banter to the zombies saying things like, “that’s all you got!” The musical score and sound effects of groaning or exploding zombies are on point.

Should you Download DEAD TRIGGER? If you’re into action shooter games, then yes this is a no-brainer. Do note you would need a higher end Android device and storage available for the game. I would say only those who had super high expectations for the game, like myself, would be disappointed in the shortcomings, and I suspect I’m in the minority this time. Overall, DEAD TRIGGER is a superb HD game for your Android with possibly the best 3D graphics we’ve seen, it’s a bit repetitive but definitely worth downloading!

i agree it’s a visually great game! and it’s really exciting for me ‘cos I don’t usually play FPS games and I’m really bad at them. but there isn’t much of a plot and the game is starting to get pretty difficult, so that’s the sad part..
