If you’re a fan of word searches, this is an app you’re going to want to check out. Cut The Word Pro is a game with infinite puzzles to complete and some 50,000 words (and counting) in-game. It’s simple to play, features a responsive user interface and is progressively challenging. Your scores can be saved online, there are loads of achievements to unlock and there are even leaderboards to crack into.
Word searches have traditionally been a pursuit defined by those cheaply-produced puzzle books and a leaky biro to circle the words with. Word searches appear in newspapers, magazines and kids comics. It lets us use our brains and pat ourselves on the back with a series of mini-wins established when a ‘word just pops out’ at us. Lots of fun, very rewarding and quite addictive.
Cut The Word Pro brings this hobby to Android and makes it easier than ever. You have a wide variety of preferences, including some 16 different word categories: Random, Miscellaneous, Adjective, Adverbs, Animals, Body parts, Countries, Flowers, Fruits and Vegetables, Legal, Rock and Minerals, Sports, Tools, Trees, verbs and World Cities. It is taken only slightly farther and gamified as you have to solve fast enough to retain the most points (and subsequently end of round stars) as time runs out.

Cut the Word Pro – About
If you like word games in general you have to have a soft-spot for word searches. They tap into the part of our brain which likes to identify things we recognise. It can teach us new words, help with spelling and such puzzles can bring out even the best hidden wordie in all of us.
If you enable Scoreloop to begin with you can access and view global leaderboards. Additionally, you have ten different achievements you can unlock. If you’re competitive, this is something you go back to again and again. Plus, word searches tend to be those things you can kill a few minutes at a time with, so great for commuters or people that like to unwind with word puzzles. Also, individual searches are usually quite simple, so games like this persistently have that ‘one more go‘ factor.
I did notice, however, that if you do not enable Scoreloop initially you can’t seem to do so later on. You either have to uninstall then reinstall the app to get it to work again. Without Scoreloop you can’t access or see leaderboards.
The graphics are simple, but very sharp. They have a kind of wooden board theme which is great and the game is full of little animations and sounds effects.
Accelerometer, Vibration & Sound:
The sound is subtle but nice. You get a ‘ting’ sound when you find a word and there are soundbites of encouragement in a male voice. You get things like ‘good’ and ‘cool’ to encourage you along. You can turn these off but I thought they were pretty good for the type of game it is.
