CTA Tracker allows you to Track and Map all your Chicago CTA buses at your favorite stops.
Price: Free, $2.99
Recently we attended the Flourish Conference 2009 held at the University of Chicago. If you know about Chicago traffic then you know it’s best most times to take the bus or “El” than drive and park. We didn’t want to drive or pay for parking so before we left, we Googled the bus route. We got the time and route as a reference to cross check against CTA Tracker Android App. The app came in handy as you could see an estimated arrival time of the bus (in minutes) and display where it was on the map. It gives weather temperature and you can view the bus in real-time on the map. Really Cool!
Gripe Alert: CTA Tracker Pro comes at a charge when you can simply go to www.ctabustracker.com from any web enabled phone to get the same information for Free. Also you can’t “Edit” a route, you have to delete it by long-pressing and recreating it. Lastly, it crashes often when inputting routes for the first time.
CTA Tracker Android App could be useful to Chicago based Androids or those visiting the “windy-city” and taking public transportation.
CTA Tracker could use some help in the user interface and ease of use departments:
As our effort to help the Android Community, AndroidTapp.com will offer user interface and graphics assistance to developers that need it. Simply shoot us an email via the general Contact page.
Potential daily use dependant on your CTA public transportation riding needs.

Should you Download CTA Tracker? If you can use the app, we suggest using the Free version!
Thanks for the thoughtful review. A few comments from the publisher:
- The reviewed Pro version is intended to aggregate all the various features into one location for those who really make use of Chicago’s CTA. The Lite version of CTA Tracker is free (ad-supported) and will always be so, providing the majority of functionality at no cost. Or, you can go to ctabustracker.com as mentioned in the review.
- Route editing will be available in a new release scheduled for end of April.
- We are working through the crashes. Many of the crashes you have seen have been fixed in a subsequent release.
jsdf – Do you have a WEBOS version of this app?? Would be great to have your app on my Palm Pre. I’ve been searching the net all over for something like this, I stumbled on your app after a friend showed me his. Let me know. Thanks – Juan
Sorry, Juan, I can’t help you there.
Maybe you should get an Android phone instead!
Thanks for the review! I was looking for a CTA tracker app for android, found your review, and realized we were both at Flourish this year
I was presenting on Drupal.
Quick correction: You were at the University of Illinois, Chicago (UIC), not the University of Chicago. People tend to get touchy about that distinction
