Cordy Sky is a super-cute vertical platforming game for Android. Guide Cordy higher and higher as he collects fuel cells for his rocket. Taking a familiar form of gameplay and giving it a huge revamp, Cordy Sky is not dissimilar in idea to games such as Hyper Jump and Abduction! Bound upwards through an assortment of obstacles, ramps, platforms and boosts to help Cordy save the day. Immersive, fun, addictive and incredibly cute, Cordy’s new adventure is very slick indeed.
Price: Free, and $0.99 for extra features.

Cons

Features:
Cordy Sky sees a return to the Android Market of the hugely popular robot, first seen in the game named, unsurprisingly, Cordy. This follow-up adventure sees Cordy crash land on a mysterious planet and need to collect fuel cells to refuel his ship. Gameplay consists of bouncing higher and higher, collecting items and finding the fuel cells.
Despite being cut from the same cloth as games such as Hyper Jump and the Abduction! series, I actually felt Cordy had more in common with a much bigger franchise- Sonic the Hedgehog. Even though you move Cordy upwards, there are so many boosts and apparent ‘tracks’ as you progress it felt at times much more like an Sonic Adventure than the abducted bovine game.
Gameplay is at times blisteringly fast and, like Sonic, it’s often a job to keep up with where Cordy is flying. The graphics are truly incredibly and full of cartoony detail and accuracy. The whole environment is rich and fluid, even when Cordy gets fired towards an outlying track, which incidentally gives the game quite a 3D feel.
As I think I have mentioned in reviews before- try my review of Reckless Racing- it’s great to see that the developers haven’t forced upon the gamer one specific means of control. Instead you get three: select to use tilt control or two kinds of on-screen controls. There is also an onscreen boost button which can be used to give Cordy the occasional rocket boost. There are five stages to complete and at the end of each there is a fuel cell to collect. Naturally stages get trickier as you progress.
Without much doubt Cordy Sky is a blissfully fun game with lots of cute quirks and engrossing gameplay. Unlike similar games, there are several stages where Cordy gets to stop so it’s not like the game places you persistently ‘in-play’ and it allows you to take a small breather. This is exceptionally refreshing and adds to the enjoyment of the game.

Fun Factor:
Cordy Sky is loads of fun. While it is very cute, SilverTree knows how to make an adorable character that gamers can engage with. Another title of theirs was the sublime Sleepy Jack, so expect Cordy Sky to drip with the same rich qualities and enjoyable gameplay.
I do think, however, that the genre of games in which you propel characters upwards- (“physics based ascension” isn’t particularly catchy is it?) is something people either love or hate. When I get feedback on games such as those mentioned already, I get a very mixed bag of responses; some adore it while others really don’t like it. Whether or not they privately suffer from a fear of heights is unknown, but the fact remains that some gamers just aren’t into these kind of games, even if they are done fantastically well like Cordy Sky.
Addictive:
I found that, once I got over the crips visuals and blisteringly fast gameplay, the bedrock of the game- guiding Cordy upwards, collecting items and completing stages, is very addictive- it just takes you a little while to soak the game in. Initially there seems to be a lot going on and gameplay is pretty frantic, but once you get used to the flow of the game, and know you can take the occasional pause, it becomes both engrossing and immersive. With three different difficulty settings it’s not hard to see gamers going back for more on a higher level.
Graphics:
As you should expect, graphics are very high quality and detailed. Cordy Sky definitely adds to the growing list of games which feature near-on console quality graphics. It is certainly not far removed from a number of PlayStation 2 titles in terms of visuals. The environments are lustrous and buttery, colorful and detailed- all making for a stunning experience of delicious eye-candy.
Accelerometer, Vibration & Sound:
The accelerometer works brilliantly when you select it as the control option. Sound consists of a light and fluffy music soundtrack and an assortment of fun sounds as Cordy collects things or finishes stages.
