Contract Killer 2 is a freemium sequel from Glu Mobile that sees you in the shoes of Jack Griffin, the ultimate contract killer/assassin, call him what you will. In a game that literally drips in testosterone, macho Jack has to complete a series of increasingly difficult kills and other tasks in a variety of environments. If you have an itchy trigger finger, read on…
Price: Free, In-app Purchases
Tested on: HTC One X
Pros & Cons:
- Sterling graphics!
- Immersive sound!
- Loads of missions!
- Fun gameplay!
- Progress is severely hankered by lack of funds, requiring immediate in-app purchases to make any progress.
Contract Killer 2 is the update to the successful Contract Killer by Glu Mobile. In this new incarnation, you can use stealthy close-combat moves alongside the more long-range sniper shots of its predecessor. This definitely represents an evolution in the series gameplay, which has also introduced a zombie elements in Contract Killer: Zombie.
The game to be roundly complimented on its rich graphics. Everything is incredibly detailed and realistic. Even the transitions between first-person sniper mode to the third-person stealth mode are remarkably smooth and intuitive. It is also easy to compliment the awesome sound, which seems lifted from action film you might care to remember. It’s incredibly brutal, truly immersive and high in playability.
The game series is more macho and testosterone fueled than ever before. Your character ‘Jack’ (it’s never a ‘Kevin’ or a ‘Geoff’ is it?) is that broody kind sociopath who shaves with a machete and arm-wrestles Chuck Norris in his sleep. It’s all about big guns and then even bigger guns that you just can’t afford unless you dip into your own wallet. The game quickly becomes insanely challenging (nigh-on impossible) unless you upgrade, and the game is keen to recommend the gun you need for that mission, knowing full well it will require an in-app purchase. It does make you feel somewhat handicapped when you begin a mission you are woefully under prepared for.
That said, if you’re willing to lay down some green for the toys Jack wants, it’s a rewarding and exciting adventure that carries with a thrilling narrative that is high on intrigue and inevitably leads Jack to kill more people. I’d certainly recommend the game, you genuinely get a premium experience, but progress is slowed significantly when you only have access to the free (and low grade) weaponry.

There’s definitely an element of fun in completing levels, despite the game being wrapped in this incredibly depressing skin of morbidity and dark brooding. Jack never smiles. If upgrades were a bit more accessible he might have a reason to smile to himself, but it can feel a little frustrating when a level clearly requires far more fire power than you have at your disposal.
There’s certainly an element about the game that makes you want to progress and develop the story. It’s not a casual Angry-Birds style game, but there’s some compulsion there definitely.
The graphics are right up there with the best games on Android, the likes of Shadowgun come to mind.
Accelerometer, Vibration & Sound:
The sound is brilliantly crafted and suits the game very well. From the music to the sound effects themselves, everything is geared to be immersive and engaging.
