As many new consumers are buying smart phones with Google’s Android operating system, many are greeted with an overwhelming amount of apps and want to know “what apps they should download“?

Thankfully we offer a premium service to help with that. Research shows that consumers are more influenced to purchase products from: friends/family or trusted recommendations, expert reviews, followed by advertising. This is why we have partnered with mPlayIt’s Android Arcade, a platform for social discovering what Android apps Facebook friends are using. Thus combining the top two impulses in consumer recommendation spending; recommendations and expert opinion.

Today mPlayIt social sharing apps on Facebook for iPhone, Blackberry and Android launches an update to introduce “Gurus” in their “Apptivity Feed”. Gurus are targeted experts; be it users, bloggers or resource websites like ours whom offer highly valued opinions on mobile applications for better discovery. Their Apptivity Feed is a real-time stream of latest activity of recently viewed, rated, commented and Guru Approved apps.

For obvious reasons we were hand selected to represent Android as a Guru. Our colleagues at AndroidGuys.com and AndroidandMe.com top out the list along with IntoMobile and Stuart Dredge. So join us on Facebook to discover some awesome Android apps! Check out our Profile and become a Fan on our new Facebook page!

TeleNav reveals some interesting data about GPS navigation usage from their users nationwide. According to that study, the top 10 U.S. businesses searched with GPS navigation are as follows:

Wal-Mart
Starbucks
Target
Best Buy
Bank of America
Walgreens
I recently wrote a developer spotlight on TeleNav noting their GPS navigation product tends to be most accurate regarding routing among GPS navigation apps for Android.
WIRELESS M2M LEADERS LAUNCH NEW CONCEPT IN PROJECT OUTSOURCING

WIRELESS M2M LEADERS LAUNCH NEW CONCEPT IN PROJECT OUTSOURCING

Connected Development offers end-to-end services from design and development
through certification and even manufacturing, to bring new devices to market fast.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

March 9, 2010 (Research Triangle Park, NC) – For the first time ever, companies launching new wireless products can go to a single source for everything from requirements definition, to project management, to design, validation, certification – even manufacturing. Introducing Connected Development.

Led by a team of well-known and respected experts in wireless and M2M, Connected Development provides the most comprehensive set of services on the market to bring wireless M2M products from concept to reality quickly and painlessly. Further, their network of partners, spanning every aspect of the wireless community, let Connected Development position new solutions for success from the start.

Conceived by president Stefan Lindvall, Connected Development was created to address the complexities of the wireless development cycle. ”Often, companies trying to gain the advantages of wireless find the learning curve steep and expensive, just to get started,” Lindvall said. ”And once they’ve invested in product design, they can be overwhelmed by the certification process. We formed Connected Development to simplify the entire process, eliminate barriers to entry and enable wireless innovation for better business and better living.”

With more than 20 years experience in the wireless industry, Lindvall’s record includes the successful establishment of new businesses, revenue growth and margin enhancement, and the ability to expand customer and partner relationships. His experience spans multiple disciplines at wireless and M2M companies including Ericsson, Sony Ericsson and Wavecom.

”There has been an increasingly clear need in M2M for the comprehensive services Connected Development brings to market,” said Alex Brisbourne, President and Chief Operating Officer of KORE Telematics, the world’s largest specialized M2M wireless service provider. ”New segments are rapidly evolving, and the practical realities of wireless enablement are challenging for many organizations who understand their segment needs, but may not have in-depth wireless expertise to deliver successful solutions. We are pleased to see such a capable team prepared to fill the long-standing gap which will save developers time and money, and bring solutions to revenue more quickly – so benefitting the entire industry.”

”The service Connected Development is offering is exactly what many of our partners in the M2M marketplace are looking for – namely, the expertise to handle any or all of the process required to go from concept to commercialization,” said Marc Eisenberg, CEO of ORBCOMM, the leading provider of global satellite and cellular data communications solutions purpose-built for M2M. ”All too often, we have seen ideas for connecting assets in new and exciting ways fail to make the jump from idea to finished product. We expect that having a firm like Connected Development on board will be a great asset in helping our partners bring their ideas to market.”

Joining Lindvall in the new venture are Dave Hoover, Vice President, Research & Development and Ross Brown, Vice President, Validation & Certification Services. Hoover has nine US patents and nearly 20 years experience, having successfully brought many M2M and cellular phone projects to market. Brown sports a total of 30 years experience in the communications field, including the last 15 in Certification and Validation.

Located in North Carolina’s famed Research Triangle region, Connected Development operates at the epicenter of research and technology, providing access to some of the most talented and respected engineers in wireless and M2M, with expertise in everything from custom antenna design to application development to industrialization.

For more information about Connected Development, visit http://www.connecteddev.com or see us at CTIA Wireless 2010 in Las Vegas March 23-25, booth #257 in the M2M Zone.

AT&T Launches Motorola BACKFLIP with MOTOBLUR

Hooray! AT&T launched its first Android phone, the Motorola Backflip with MOTOBLUR social sharing software. The Backflip literally does what it says, meaning the keyboard opens from the back, the keys light up while orienting the touch screen display in horizontal mode. There is an added bonus with a track pad, similar to laptops, on the rear of the phone that you can use to control the touch screen display called Backtrack. You’ll find AT&T Navigator powered by TeleNav for GPS navigation preoloaded. Bummer that it launches with Android OS version 1.5 (upgradable to 2.1), however does have cool features like HSPA 7.2 capable (able to reach higher 3G speeds if available), 5 megapixel camera with flash, and Motoblur makes updating social network statuses or even finding your phone a breeze!

It will launch on March 7th for $100 bucks after $100 rebate and 2 year contract with data plan.
