Color Touch Effects is a light, funky little photo manipulation tool featuring a range of effects, like being able to input caption and paint effect over the original. It’s a free app, simple to use and you can share your creations in a variety of ways: Facebook, Twitter, Email, Text etc. The application is quite basic, but it does its job well and you are able to make cool, affected pictures in a few minutes.
Price: Free
Tested on: HTC Desire HD
Content Rating: Everyone
Pros & Cons:
Pros
- Plenty of different photo effects.
- Ability to input text into a picture.
- Under/over painting tool.
- Share in a variety of ways.
Cons
- Occasional force-closure.
- Not too many features, eg. there are no editing tools, such as cropping etc.
Features:
Color Touch Effects is a cool little application that allows you to add colored effects to your pictures. You can either take a photo within the application, or select an existing image from your gallery or from Facebook. Once your image is uploaded, you have a variety of effects to choose from: mono, sepia, old mono, old, infared, auto contrast, color balance, contrast, color rotate, cross process, boost dark, lomo, negative, solarise, thermal, xray, old magazine and zoom. Some of these effects can be adjusted, giving you a range of different color types to add to your photo’s.
The ability to add a caption or a title to your picture is a nice option too. Perhaps if you have a witty imagination and you have just taken a funny pic of one of your buddies, Color Touch Effects will let you add some text and upload it to Facebook before he even realises.
If you want to be extra creative, you can over-paint one effect with another, creating a mixture of effects that look quite cool. Ok, it doesn’t always look cool. Sometimes the amalgamations look horrific, but it’s good fun experimenting! I haven’t got an artistic bone in my body but I was able to create some pretty cool pictures.
I did encounter a few force-closures while using Color Touch Effects, but fortunately not when I was in the middle of editing a photo.

Usefulness:
I think the app is pretty good, there isn’t that many effects but the ones it has are pretty good. Unfortunately there is no cropping or specific editing tools, but for simple photo effects this has some nice options.
Ease of Use:
Really simple, simply click the effect you want and it’s done. One small annoyance with the app is that if you click back you leave the app altogether. If you go into the application after this, you have to start again. So, you can’t part-edit a picture to go back to later- unless you save and re-effect later.
Frequently Used:
I wouldn’t think this is something you would use a lot, but it’s good fun so you might use it a few times a week if you really get into it.
Interface:
The interface is simplistic, and I wished the image you were editing was a bit bigger on the screen, but the effects are easy to select and edit.
