CloudMagic – super Fast Universal Search app for Email, Calendar, Documents & Twitter Install

CloudMagic is a a useful search app that lets you find information from a variety of locations. You can search your Gmail, Calendar, Docs, Contacts and Twitter. So, if there’s an event you’ve forgotten the date for, or a Tweet you read but forgot who wrote it, CloudMagic is a simple, effective and blindingly fast solution.

AndroidTapp.com Android App Review:

Pros & Cons:

Pros

  • Search a variety of locations!
  • Super fast!
  • Sharp design!
  • Handy homescreen widget!

Cons

  • Obviously requires quite a few permissions.
  • Will be improved if/when the likes of Facebook and Google Plus can be added.

Features:

Occasionally, the timing of when I review a particular app and the time I really need a solution for something is creepily convenient. I made an appointment a few weeks ago and I completely forgot when it was. I knew I had put it in my Google calendar, but on my device, when I needed an answer quickly it’s not easy to search; you just have to open up each day to see what’s happening. In steps CloudMagic- I just typed a keyword and it brought up my appointment (thankfully not for a couple of weeks) right away.

Whether it be an appointment or something someone said in an email a few weeks ago, it’s simple to search for and gob-smackingly fast. The app brings up everything with the keyword(s) in. So, if I’m looking for an old contact it pops up immediately. If I want to find only Android-related emails I can search for that too. It will also search through your Google Docs- incredibly handy if you use them as your primary office apps.

Now, the app could clearly be updated with the addition of Facebook and Google Plus integration, but for a relatively new app, it’s a tremendous start. What struck me initially was the speed- it digs up the information you’re looking for very fast and presents it clearly. It’s great when an app just works so incredibly well.

There are two things it reminded me of; Google Desktop- the Windows app that will scan and search through your files. And also Friday- a closed beta app we reviewed a number of months ago by Dextera (makers of Siri battler Iris). Friday has far more functionality, but CloudMagic is faster. Obviously the app comes needing a slew of permissions to work properly, and the requirement for you to log into all your accounts and give subsequent permissions. Many people feel a little dodgy about that thanks to the constant security fear-mongering Android users are subjected to. While this may sadly put more paranoid users off, CloudMagic is a brilliant little app and extremely helpful.

Usefulness:

Being useful is CloudMagic’s middle name! If you lose an important document, email, contact, appointment or Tweet- CloudMagic jumps to the rescue and finds it for you.

Ease of Use:

CloudMagic is wonderfully easy to use. Simply open the app (or go to the widget), enter the keyword and CloudMagic does the rest. The found items are simply listen in sections; contacts, emails, etc. so the thing you’re looking for is easy to find.

Frequently Used:

This depends on the user, but for busy individuals who use their device for everything, CloudMagic could be used up to several times per day.

Interface:

The interface is beautifully simple and well designed. It looks really professional and isn’t difficult to navigate.

Should you Download CloudMagic? CloudMagic is a simple yet powerful tool for finding lost information. Letting you search across your Google spaces as well as Twitter and your contacts is both handy and innovative. I’ve automatically found lots of uses for the app and I think many other users will too. Definitely check it out!

I recently bought a Kindle Fire which is a tablet that uses android apps. My question is why can I NOT download apps for androids from your site? Is it just for phones or is it for tablets too? And if not, why? You are losing out on a huge number of customers by not having these apps work on the Kindle Fire. Please resolve this issue quickly as I’ve really wanted to purchase apps from your site for some time.

      Hello Phylis,

All of our app reviews link to Google’s Android Market for downloading the app by default. Also, Amazon redirects any link to the Android Market to their own App Store. There is a workaround, but you will have to Google it. Lastly, we too have our own Android app store at http://www.androidtapp.com/apps/ which is not blocked by Amazon, therefore, you can purchase apps on phone, tablet or desktop there and install as long as you enable “Unknown Sources” in your apps management settings.

So, to be honest the blame is on Amazon, which controls your experience on your tablet. I hope the helps.

        Dear Antonio,
Thank you for responding. I am glad to know that I can still purchase apps. I am not concerned with whose at fault, I just want to be able to purchase apps from whichever source I choose. The workaround that I have to Google that you mentioned, what is it? What do I put in the google search bar? That is the only thing you did not clarify. I am mostly talking about the Android Market. When I have tried to download from that site, I get a “You have no device” message. Can I change that? How do I go about it? Thank you for any information you may have that helps me.

It is a process for advanced users, however, in short you will have to do two major tasks in order to get Google’s Android Market onto your Kindle Fire:

          1. Root it!
          2. Download and install Google’s Android Market app.

Here is a guide for both: http://www.pcworld.com/article/244474/how_to_install_the_android_market_on_your_kindle_fire.html

            Antonio,

Actually, the Kindle Fire has already been rooted so I only really have to add the rest. Thank goodness too because you are correct, that is for an advanced user which I am not. But hey, if it all works out, I am a happy camper! Thanks so much for all your help! Keep up the good work!!

    Paul,

Thanks for such a nice review. Support for Facebook and Google Plus is in our wishlist. We will keep you posted on their availability. Regarding permissions we use OAuth and users can revoke access to CloudMagic at their will.

    Cheers,
    Chirag

    Dear Antonio,

Thanks and I will for sure let you know when I get the Android Market apps on my Kindle Fire. I will so happy and I know I will get it to work because I am stubborn like that. I won’t give up until I get it to work or break it, whichever comes first…lol

    Thanks,
    Phylis
