Clockr is an incredibly simple clock app that has been around in the Google Play Store for ages. It’s a straightforward ‘worded’ clock widget which works perfectly well with a minimalist homescreen design. It comes with basic customisation settings and looks very cool.
Price: Free
Tested on: HTC One X
Content Rating: Everyone
Pros & Cons:
Pros
- Simple and elegant design!
- Enough customisations to suit any homescreen!
- Easy to use!
Cons
- Time only, some similar apps also include weather, date, etc.
- Only one size, 4×1.
Features:
Clockr is a superb app and one I return to time and time again whenever I want a new look for my Android device. It is essentially a widget which displays the time in text. Instead of a digital or analogue interface, time is worded. So, ‘13.08‘ is typically displayed as ‘thirteenzeroeight‘ and so on. This can be altered a little, for example ‘thirteenoheight‘ and you can mix up capitalisation: ‘thirteenOHeight‘, etc.
You can customise the background of the widget, switching between an invisible or semi-transparent style. You can alter the colour of the time, even having a different colour for the middle word. Size, clock style and the use of upper or lower case letters can be changed. The app lets you align the clock to the left, right or centre of the widget space, and even add shadow to the words. All in all, it’s a subtle but handy tool for complimenting a modded homescreen user interface. It’s minimalistic, simple and effective.
All this tweaking can be done in an easy menu interface which is irreducibly straightforward. Clockr is a hugely popular app and works really well with other widget solutions, often the go-to clock app for carefully designed minimalist homescreens. If you currently think your existing clock, perhaps with its time, date, weather, location and animations looks too cluttered, Clockr’s simplicity is the ideal remedy.
Tip: do not move this app to SD Card, else you will not be able to find the homescreen widget.

Usefulness:
For that perfectly simple and minimalist homescreen Clockr is the ideal widget. It looks great, is easy to configure and comes with some cool options. You can also decide on where the widget will take you when you tap it, perhaps your devices clock functions, the weather or anywhere you choose.
Ease of Use:
If you’re familiar with typical pre-ICS Android menu systems this is very easy to use. It’s worth tweaking and playing with the get the right look, but that’s part of the fun.
Frequently Used:
I think the clock on a homescreen is one of the first things you notice. I’d go as far to say that clock widgets are probably the most popular widgets in the Google Play Store. Therefore the Clockr app is something you’ll use every time you use your device.
It’s also a very adaptable widget so whenever you want to play around with your homescreen theme, try out a new ROM or launcher, or generally play around with the look and feel of your device, Clockr is a great starting point that can help you define and personalise your homscreens.
Interface:
The interface is deliberately simple. It’s an app that has been around for years now, so the menus are reminiscent of earlier Android versions: Eclair and FroYo. This doesn’t stop it being a brilliant little app however and the customisations available to you allow you to change a great deal about the widget itself.
