The BlueAnt Q1 Android Application enables the reading of text messages directly through the Q1. Once installed the BlueAnt Q1 will read back all text messages. We guide the user through the pairing process and provide help, voice controls and easy access to BlueAnt Customer Service. Q1 firmware 8.19 or above required.

Pros

• Easy pairing with phone
• Listen to SMS text messages in-ear
• Hear turn-by-turn GPS navigation instructions
• Quick help tips, user manual, and access to customer service

Cons

• Besides reading text messages in-ear, does not live up to the hype
• Does not read names of caller ID, yet reads the digits of the number
• App uses default Android’s text to speech engine which sounds robotic
• Does not read back text messages from Google Voice

Features:

BlueAnt Q1 Android Application accompanies their Q1 Bluetooth ear piece. The primary focus of the app reads your SMS text messages in-ear; however you cannot reply with voice commands. The app allows easy pairing with Bluetooth enabled Android phones and has help, quick tips and access numbers to call BlueAnt’s customer service if needed.

Gripe Alert: App uses default Android’s text to speech engine which sounds robotic, far different than the handsome male voice that communicates with you in normal Bluetooth operations.

Usefulness:

Being able to hear your text messages without looking to read then while driving is fantastic. However there of apps that does the job better such as Drivesafe.ly, which reads not only SMS text messages but email as well plus offers voice commands to respond to text messages. We would recommend that combination; BlueAnt Q1 headset with Drivesafe.ly for Android.

Ease of Use:

This app makes pairing Bluetooth enabled Android phones a breeze. Actually the Q1 headset makes pairing a snap with or without the app.

Frequently Used:

If installed and BlueAnt Q1 Bluetooth headset is enabled, it will automatically read text messages in-ear as they come in.

Interface:

The settings user interface is well designed with BlueAnt’s brand. When text messages come through, the app invokes a popup (similar to SMS Popup) with the message contents and sender’s number.
