Ben 10 Xenodrome is a turn based action fighter set in the Ben 10 universe. Ben 10, as you might know, is a popular kids animation on the Cartoon Network. Protagonist Ben can morph into 10 different aliens, each with different abilities and powers. Here you can fight any number of Ben’s in-cartoon adversaries in a series of one-on-one battles. Mixing elements of RPG, tactical battling and good old fashioned paper/scissors/stone, the game is a freemium, but there’s a question over its in-app purchasing.
Note: this app is only available in the Asia-Pacific region, therefore the Google Play “Download” link will only work in this region.
Price: Free, plus In-app purchases
Tested on: HTC One X
Content Rating: Low Maturity
Pros & Cons:
Pros
- Awesome graphics!
- Fun gameplay!
- Detailed original sound effects!
- Multiple modes of play!
Cons
- The price of upgrades are very expensive, especially compared with other freemium games. Remember this is aimed at kids and young teenagers.
Features:
Ben 10 Xenodrome is a brilliant turn-based fighting game that embeds a gamer into the world of Ben 10. Essentially you are pitted against monsters and other baddies in one-on-one combat. In each round you select three moves: Attack, Block and Breaks (which breaks an opponent’s block). Each of Ben’s aliens has its own specialities so you need to fight to their strengths. As you battle, you build up super bars which, when full, let you unleash an extra powerful attack.
If you consider gameplay simply, it’s an exciting form of paper/scissors/stone with glossy animations and cool characters. The game is immediately very playable, immersive and fun. You have three modes; Story Mode- where you go through various dialogue as Ben faces different enemies, each more powerful than the last. There’s Arcade Mode where you fight various monsters, more of which you unlock as you progress. Lastly there’s Multiplayer Mode where you can link two devices over Bluetooth and duel against each other.
There is lots of love about Ben 10 Xenodrome- perhaps one of which is that the game is completely free. However, to get upgrades- such as missions, bonus items and unlockable aliens you have to spend in-game coins. Now, accumulating these coins takes some effort and a large number of wins- they’re not very easy to come by. While you can play the game completely for free, there is another way…
You can buy these coins outright via the in-app purchasing system but, when you consider the prices, you might think twice. To unlock the most inexpensive alien is 3000 coins which in the purchasing section equates to a little under $1 (this is just for one extra playable character). Aliens are progressively more expensive but you can buy all of them for 90,000 coins. To purchase that amount of coins, it costs $9.99. Bearing in mind this kind of game is aimed at children and young adults, I felt this was very poor value for money- especially compared with other freemium games.

Fun Factor:
The game is lots of fun. The combat system is perfectly balanced and fair, the action is impressive and the graphics, gameplay and sound is immaculate.
Addictive:
I imagine if you’ve ever been into Ben 10 the cartoon, this title has to be quite compelling. It’s simple to play, fun and immersive- all the components for a likeable and addictive game.
Graphics:
The graphics are really impressive- rich with detail and animation. As everything is based on the Ben 10 cartoon, the visuals replicate this magnificently.
Accelerometer, Vibration & Sound:
The music is quite understated but by-all-means very good. The sound effects- from fighting to the alien introductions- are utterly brilliant and a perfect example of how such effects can really add to the quality of a game.
