Features:
Befunky Photo Editor is an excellent photo editing application which allows you to apply effects and distortions to an image on your device. Befunky Photo Editor allows you to view these changes live on the image before saving it.
Befunky allows you to adjust Brightness, Contrast, Saturation, Hue, Basic Sharpen, and Smart Sharpen through sliding scales under the “Edit” tab. In order to increase the brightness of an image you merely need to move the slider to the right. These sliders are implemented with all of these other image editing options as well. This allows you to easily fine tune the sharpness of an image. The great thing about Befunky is that you can make all of these adjustments without saving the image. It really allows you to pay attention to detail when editing photos.
Befunky Photo Editor also allows you to rotate images and adjust image size in order to focus on a specific portion of the photo. This is also found under the “edit tab.” To rotate the image you can click on the symbol that looks like a recycling symbol. To adjust image size to refocus a picture you can click on the picture of a drawing compass. The application will then present you with 5 options to crop the picture for image focusing: Square, Freeform, 4:3, 16:9, and Golden. When you select one of these options the application shows you a grid displaying how the image will cropped and refocused.
Under the effects tab in the free version of the application comes 20 different effects that can be applied to the image you are editing. These include Sketch, Pinhole, Black and White, Vintage, and Retro along with many others. Each of these effects can be adjusted to increase or decrease intensity through a sliding scale the same way that Brightness and Saturation can be adjusted. This feature is excellent because it allows you to apply many of the effects that applications like Camera Zoom Fx and Vignette use after the picture has already been taken. It also allows you to preview those changes before permanently saving them.
Finally, under the “Frames” tab you are able to add frames to the image you are finished editing. There are 15 different styles of frames included in the free version, of which my favorite is Polaroid. Like each of the editing options before it, the size of the frames is adjustable as well.
When you have finished editing your photos and are ready to save them, all you need to do is tap the save tab. Then Befunky will give you the option to save the photo to the Gallery, Befunky, Facebook, or Flickr. I used the Facebook option and after giving Befunky access to my Facebook account it was easier to post a picture to Facebook through Befunky then through the Facebook application.

Usefulness:
Befunky Photo Editor is an extremely useful application because it allows you to edit pictures after they have already been taken. You can try changing the various aspects of the photo, adding new effects, and new frames all with changing the original image or saving an image with effects you do not want to keep. Instead Befunky allows you to make the edits you want when you want, and to try out new effects without having to commit to them.
I also find it extremely useful to be able to post to Facebook so easily with this application, since that is where the majority of my pictures go. It makes it easier for me to accomplish what I want to do without incurring as much work accomplishing it.
Ease of Use:
Befunky Photo Editor was extremely easy to use. The use of sliders to make adjustments to individual effects and frames was genius because it allows you to preview changes at various stages in order to see which stage you really enjoyed. The layout of the application was fairly easy to navigate as well.
My main complaint with this application is that when you have an effect open and are attempting to return to the page with all of the editing options; instead of the back button bringing you back to the main editing page it returns you all the way to the startup screen for the application. The developers for this application need to really think about enabling better back button support as that is native to the Android platform and relied upon by all it’s users.
Frequently Used:
Befunky Photo Editor is an application I would use whenever I wanted to add interesting effects to a photo I had already taken. I think I prefer it to other options like Vignette and Camera FX because it allows me to preview the effect before I save the image, in a similar way to Photo Booth on iOS. Having the ability to preview these changes makes this an extremely useful application, and one I will continue to use frequently.
Interface:
Overall I was very pleased with the interface for Befunky Photo Editor, it was intuitive to use and very visually appealing. Unfortunately there are some issues with the interface for the application and it’s compatibility with the Android back button. Hopefully these will be resolved in future updates.
Another mild complaint I had with the application was it’s lack of some of the more quirky effects included in competing products like Camera Zoom FX. These include Mirrored Effects, Mosaic, Tiled, Pinch effects, or Twirl. Hopefully some of these are included in the premium version, but they are all conspicuously absent from the free one.
