AndroidTapp.com Android App Review:

Pros & Cons:

Pros

  • Lush interface!
  • Easy navigation!
  • Access to Reddit inbox for messaging!
  • Access favourite subreddits!
  • Lots of settings and configuration!

Cons

  • One-story-only widget is a little disappointing.
  • Occasional loading lag.

Features:

BaconReader for Reddit is a gorgeous and functional Reddit client for Android. If you’re just a fan of the web compilation site or even a hardcore Redditor, this might be a smart alternative to the other significant Reddit client in the Market, reddit is fun.

The thing that jumps out about BaconReader is its slickness. It is genuinely beautiful to use and very smooth and polished. Navigation is really simple and there are plenty of tabs to find your way around. Initially you have main page options of ‘front page’ and ‘what’s hot’. When pressing these a sub-menu drops down to reveals a slew of other options. From the screen menu you can select subreddits and enter a new interface which lets you view, customise, add new subreddits, view popular and search. For the most part all this is very responsive. I did note occasional lag, but then I sometimes think this is something that is almost expected with clients for live and constantly updating sites.

Reddit is a savvy and busy community so it’s good to see that you can also access your Reddit inbox via the app. It’s a great addition and really useful for accessing your account on the go.

There is a wealth of configurations in the app. Notably you can switch from a lights on (white/blue) to a lights off (grey/black) view, great for reading at night or if you prefer a darker interface. I always prefer darker colors in my apps, but weirdly I thought the ‘lights on’ look here was better. You can also configure story options, layout options, post filters and notifications. I think much of this might seem unimportant to some users, but it’s superb to see that level of personalisation and control in a client app.

Usefulness:

Perfect for the keen Redditor on the go, BaconReader might be the new kid on the block as far as Reddit clients go, but it’s packed with useful and intuitive features.

Ease of Use:

The in-app navigation is pretty slick and it’s easy to move around and find all kinds of stories.

Frequently Used:

It’s constantly updated so quite possibly something you use daily, if not several times per day.

Interface

The interface is beautiful to use and very polished. Arguably BaconReader is precisely how clients for big and popular websites should be developed. There’s practically everything you could want right there in an easy to use yet feature-rich app. I sincerely wished the widget could be expanded to feature more than one item at a time, but this aside it’s a comprehensive and fun app to use, and a great way to access all the Reddit links you could want.

Should you Download BaconReader for Reddit? Yes, definitely check this out. Even if you are a user of another Reddit client, there might just be enough here to lure you away. It’s packed with functionality, features and customisations and tied together in a slick and superb interface. There is, quite blissfully, a free version to try out first, but for a couple of dollars, the ad-free version isn’t a bad investment at all.
