Babel Rising is an compulsively addictive and incredibly challenging ‘God’-game for Android. In the game, your job, as God, is to destroy the blasphemous humans who are daring to build a heavenward tower. As an almighty superpower you have lots of apocalyptic weapons to choose from. Pros
Cons
Babel Rising places you in the position of God, and your job forthwith is to wreak holy hell upon the heathen hordes that dare to build such an ungodly tower. You have some pretty impressive powers though, so plenty let mayhem commence!
You principal weapon is ‘Touch’; just touch one of the brick carrying fools and they wither and die immediately. Lightning bolts are obviously a staple of any vengeful deity and you can put these to good use too, often taking out several humans in one flash. Should you wish, you can utilize the power of the typhoon upon your wicked creations or perhaps a massive tsunami will do the trick? Even more powerful is the meteor strike, which literally lets you literally reign down fire and brimstone. And finally to really demonstrate your wrath- how about an earthquake? This hugely destructive superpower really lets them know whose boss, wiping out myriads in one go.
OK, so underneath this biblical-apocalypse-in-your-pocket, you have a complex and challenging bug-squishing style game so, if you’re familiar with that kind of whack-a-mole gameplay, this should be quite familiar to you.
Unfortunately your powers are a little capped and you have to wait for meters to charge. How very old Testament. The ‘Touch’ meter fills up pretty quickly, so you’ll spend most of your time tapping the humans to kill them off. The Tsunami is particularly impressive too as it washes away humans very quickly indeed. For best results you have to find an effective strategy that prevents the humans from building the tower, no easy feat.
Babel Rising is loads of fun. With all the powers you have, combined with the cool graphics and sound, it’s a brilliant way to kill time. And ‘heathens’, obviously.
Babel Rising is remarkably challenging as the power gauges seem to fill up so slowly… but it remains incredibly addictive and compelling. The scoring is done through Openfeint so you can compare score with your friends online, and there are 16 achievements to unlock- so plenty to play for!
The graphics are pretty detailed, despite their 2D rendering. There are neat animations when you wipe the humans out; like with the lightning strikes and tsunami, so this adds more of a aesthetic element which woks well in the game.
You need to shake your device to incur the wrathful earthquake power, which is a nice touch and the accelerometer works well here, very intuitive. The sound is top-notch. You have various sound effects related to the weapons and humans often react with yelling noises of their own. The music is also brilliant. There’s an epic orchestral title track which reminds you of watching those epic blockbuster movies like Gladiator or Troy. During gameplay there’s a catchy little tribal ditty which works sublimely well with the game itself.

Should you Download this Babel Rising? Definitely definitely definitely. Babel Rising is loads of fun, massively addictive and very challenging. The graphics and sound work incredibly well with the game and gameplay itself is a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Without a free version, it is a bit of a punt, but I really enjoyed the game and think it’s well worth the download. Obviously you’ll know if this is the kind of game for you, but for elaborate and theatrical bug-squishing-style japes, it doesn’t get better.
