Early in 2012 we brought you a review of a fun little game called Babel Rising. Well now the app has popped out in 3D and offers whole new ways to crush those foolish humans! Babel Rising 3D is an advanced bug-squishing-style game with apocalyptic powers and varied gameplay. Experience beautiful 3D gameplay as you unleash your inner deity!
Price: Free, ~$4.99 for the full version
Tested on: HTC One X
Content Rating: Everyone
Pros & Cons:
Pros
- Awesome graphics!
- Immersive sound!
- Challenging gameplay!
- Two modes of gameplay!
Cons
- Not as intuitive as the original 2D game.
- Seriously not worth over $5.
Features:
Babel Rising 3D once again puts you in the position of the insulted deity, annoyed from the tips of your holy toes to the crest of your halo at the impudence, arrogance and unbelievable vanity of these humans. You have the wrath of the gods at your fingertips and you’re not afraid to use it. The only problem is, these humans are pretty industrious and just won’t quit! They start off with a trickle and are easy to crush- however, when more and more defiantly stream up the tower it gets tricky, even for an all powerful god such as yourself.
You have a range of powers to use against the humans that involve the elements of fire, air, earth and water. Your power will be truly felt when you rain down meteors, lightning, invoke floods and earthquakes. Additionally, there are passive powers and parchments to help you too. There are two modes of play- the 15-mission campaign mode and unrelenting survival mode, so plenty to keep you busy.
While the graphics are dazzling and your range of wrathful weapons are impressive, I didn’t find the game quite as engaging as it’s 2D counterpart. While it’s the same concept, hitting naughty humans is far trickier and not particularly intuitive. The growth of manna seems incredibly slow, especially to start with and gives you a distinct feeling of swimming against the tide. While this doesn’t kill gameplay dead, it’s very very tough. Finally, I’m really not convinced that, at over $5 for the full version, the game is worth completely worth it. The 2D game was around the $1.50, but by trebling the price, I think it’s going to out price itself. It’s a good game, but not ‘that’ good.

Fun Factor:
Crushing humans in such a devastating manner is lots of fun, but it’s often very tricky and your weapons are not as accurate as you’d perhaps prefer. Manna is slow to build and often makes the game frustrating.
Addictive:
It is addictive, if you can get over the initially frustrating gameplay. It’s no Angry Birds, and it can feel a little annoying after failing to complete a long level, but it’s engrossing while you’re playing it.
Graphics:
The graphics are utterly sublime- rich interactive 3D visuals that rotate around the tower with rich, smooth fluidity. Additionally, the detail of various weapons and resulting destruction are very cool.
Accelerometer, Vibration & Sound:
The sound is typically epic- in that it sounds like the soundtrack from a Hollywood epic like Gladiator. It’s very well done and compliments the gameplay perfectly.
