Autumn Walk is a sweet and addictive game in which you walk a Victorian gentleman and his pet dog ‘Colin’ around a park. Admittedly this might not continue your rush of adrenaline if you’ve just been playing ShadowGun, but the game is wonderfully quirky and certainly an original concept.

Tested on: Nexus 4

- Superbly jaunty dialogue!
- Free to play!
Cons
- Gets a little dull after lengthy play.
Features:
Autumn Walk is a fun little game that sees you as a Victorian gentleman walking his little dog and commenting on his various thoughts. The aim of the game is to continue for as long as you can and the fellow tells you your distance score at the end of each turn. Two occurrences prevent you from walking; Colin the dog stopping and refusing to move (which can result in your lead snapping when you pull) and if Colin starts to run (which again can result in lead snapping if you do not let go in time).
When the dog begins to run you have to hold down on the screen to hold the lead extra tight. Then, when the lead starts to shake heavily, release and the dog stays under control. When the dog stops moving (and stubbornly lies on the floor) you have to tap the screen to convince him to move. If you don’t the lead eventually snaps from consistent pulling. Controls then are beautifully simple and the objective is simple- keep walking the dog for as long as possible!
The enjoyment you glean from the game is actually twofold; the gameplay itself which is both addictive and entertaining and also the speech bubbled dialogue from the walking gent. He natters on with anecdotes and a vast supply of thoughts and observations. This is fun to read and gives you something additional to concentrate on. The dialogue is all wonderfully twee and full of humorously silly quotes.
The game is relatively innovative and quite original. I think the only similar game I’ve encountered is Rainy Day 2 where you guide Mr Skinny through the rain but then Autumn Walk is different in many ways. Perhaps the only existing game like it is its predecessor Winter Walk. The game is completely free to play but you do have the option to purchase new costumes for your gentleman. These range from $1-4 and there’s plenty of variety to choose from.

Autumn Walk – Journal
Fun Factor:
The game is oodles of fun but most definitely in the casual category of gaming. After a period of continuous play it does feel a little bit slow and repetitive. However, for a game to dip in to now and again it’s great.
Addictive:
If you’re someone who likes to beat their own score and can get quite competitive with yourself, you’ll enjoy the challenge of concentrating long enough to improve your furthest distance. Additionally, there are awards and items to collect which are stored in your journal and can be viewed whenever you like. These are fun to collect and you might find yourself trying to collect everything.
Graphics:
The graphics are deliciously retro and two-dimensional. You walk through a park of blustering wind and leaves, but you also venture past a variety of fountains, buildings and other landmarks which mixes up the background images.
Accelerometer, Vibration & Sound:
The sound consists of an extremely cool retro music track which is anything but Victorian and yet still manages to compliment the game well. The music plays as you walk and, while it is quite loud, never becomes annoying.
