Another late edition of Ask NerdGirl!
Is the “complete with” option dependent on the app developer? I have Phonecard Express which pops up one message, and Linphone which has a complete with option. I’d rather just have one choice of all 3.
Cheers, Paul.

The complete with option shows when you have more than one app that does the same thing and no default set for that action.
For example, let’s say you have installed Skyfire and you still have the default web browser. You get an email with a link to a webpage and click on it. The first time you do this, you will see the “Complete With” option come up with both Skyfire and the default browser. From there you can click on which one you would want to use. Also, in the “Complete With” box, at the bottom you can make your choice the default action so it won’t ask you again.
In your case, Phonecard Express is to call with calling cards and Linphone is to call using VoIP. The option you have coming up is only for something that Linphone does and not Phonecard Express.
Is there going to be an update to the Moment 2.1 or is it not going to receive the 2.2 upgrade. Thanks!
Kris
This phone was released in November of 2009 so in theory it is not destined to be part of the upgrade. Also, it doesn’t have one of the stronger processors on the market so Flash might cause issues on it. It hasn’t been confirmed one way or another so keep your hopes up.
Hi NerdGirl,
I’ve got an HTC Hero (Euro GSM – so still on Android 1.5
) and it annoys me greatly that the volume control buttons are context sensitive. When there’s no sound playing, it controls the ringer volume. When there is sound, it controls the media volume.
Is there’s an option or app that will lock the volume control to only one mode of operation? I never want to change my ringer volume, but I’d like to be able to change the media volume *before* I open a particularly noisy app, without having to dig around in the settings menu.
Cheers!
Steve
I was surprised to find it, but there is actually an app that can help you. It doesn’t disable the ringtone volume but it does allow you to set the volume of different modes without having to be in that mode. It’s free and it’s called Volume Button Controller. It works on all Android versions so it should work perfectly for you.
Nerdgirl,
It seems you are the one to ask about these things. One of the features I love about my HTC Incredible is that when looking at a contact in my address book, there’s a tab to see all of my voicemails, e-mails, chats, and texts back and forth with that person – that is, until I started using Gmail, Google voice, and Google talk. Is there any way to add this functionality? Perhaps a Google contacts organizer?
Thanks in advance!
Lee
This kind of functionality is a part of the user interface (UI) of the HTC itself. There are several threads on message boards about this, but at this time there are no apps that combines the HTC Sense and the Google Voice and Talk.
I have just bought a tablet running android 1.6 and would like to know how to download apps. If I click on the barcode, I get sent to a page that always says it’s not available. I don’t have a barcode scanner and can’t imagine how a tablet could use one, since it doesn’t have a camera.

You should just be able to click on the barcode so that is the correct method. Depending on what apps you are looking at the issue may be that the app is only for Android 2.0 or above. Unfortunately, a lot of the newer apps are programmed this way.
Another way you can install apps is to look for the .apk file for that app. That’s like the .exe for normal computer programs. If you look here, it will help you with this process.
