Ask NerdGirl answers the following questions: how to get calendar and contacts on Android, apps cannot be trusted should I download them? Can I print a list from Barcode Scanner apps, plus using Sprint Evo HotSpot I drop Internet connection when I make or receive calls… why?
I was sold an Android X based upon it syncing with Outlook through Gmail. While that is an additional hassle I don’t need, I believed it could be made to work for my contacts and calendar. Now, however, after I have invested several valuable hours with the Android I discover that the Gmail link does not work with Windows XP 64 bit version.
So, my question is how, if at all, can I get my calendar and contacts onto my Android? I use a case management software called Amicus Attorney, which links with Outlook to export contact and calendar information to it, then I used Outlook to sync with my Blackberry.
Thanks for any input or suggestions you have!

Michael, follow the steps of our ever-popular article How to Sync your Outlook Calendar, Google Calendar and Android Phone Calendar. This will help you sync Gmail calendar and Outlook both ways, in theory, from there your Amicus Attorney should be able to sync with Outlook as normal.
my droid x gives me a warning about downloading apps onto my droid x saying they cannot be trusted……do I need to worry about this ?…..i.e. is it ok to download free games to my droid x ?

I’m assuming you’re “side-loading” apps outside the Market, meaning you are installing apps outside of Google’s Official Android Market. When you first turn that setting on it warns you of this. I would warn a bit of caution in carelessly downloading apps from untrusted sources. We’ve seen a few rouge apps in foreign markets acting as Trojan apps. Always check the permissions apps request and if it does not seem appropriate do not download it.
I am looking for a barscanner program for my Android that will make a list of the items I scan and then let me print the list.

Unfortunately Tonya the barcode scanners apps that do offer history cannot be accessed for printing. Unless one of our readers know of an app that does this we’re all ears!
Hi there n3rdg1rl,
Quick question, I hope. Using a Sprint EVO hotspot for laptop connection, I lose the connection when I receive or make a phone call. Is this normal or is there a setting I missed that will resolve this.
Thanks,
Bob
Bob if you’re using your Evo as a HotSpot on 3G and make or receive a call you will be disconnected. This is due to CDMA network, which cannot do simultaneous voice and data.
However if on 4G you should not lose connection with a call as the 4G WiMax is a separate radio that the voice calls don’t use.
