What a week here in Cleveland! I’m not going to mention his name, but now it seems that we really have nothing! Thanks! All we can hope for is the Browns picking it up!
Hey NerdGirl!
If there’s one thing I love (maybe the only thing at this point) about my G1 it’s the integration with Google. For better or worse most of my life exists in their cloud. I do everything through Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Voice, Maps and my Google Contacts. The thing I always loved about the G1 was I signed in with my Google account on day one and my whole Google-life has been there and up-to-date in my phone all along.
Unfortunately it seems like there are some people out there having problems with their EVO’s syncing (and actually deleting) their Google Contacts, I’ve seen some threads about Google Voice not working quite right, and I wonder about Google Calendar integration.
Am I being too paranoid about these things? Do you have to set up each Google data point to sync up with the EVO in different places? Maybe some people in the comments can simply say “don’t worry, it all just works”
Thanks!
Chad
So far, my experience with Google integration has been relatively flawless. I find that most cases of people having problems with their contacts being deleted or things not syncing correctly is due to incorrect settings. If you really look into it, you’ll see that these same problems arise on all phones, not the EVO and tend to be corrected fairly easily.
If you have always had good luck with your G1 then the transition to the EVO should be relatively painless. You know what settings to use and what has worked for you. I would say, don’t worry. If a problem does arise, you know who you can turn to.
Is there an app for GPS in Europe?
Google Maps should be working for you in Europe. Most places the turn-by-turn does not work but the maps and directions do.
For full voice integration, you can get CoPilot Live. You can buy different map packs that save to your SD card so no matter where you go you know where you are.
Is there an app for translating, for example, Slovakian to English, and back?
There are literally hundreds of apps available on the Market that do translation. Depending on what you’re trying to translate (web page, text, email, voice, entered text, etc.) will determine what app you would need.
Google Translate allows translations in more than 50 languages. It can use your voice to translate or copy and paste text. You can also use it to translate SMS messages you receive.
Translate Tool uses the Google Translate frame, but also allows you to translate your email messages. It also attempts to translate other apps and the Internet, but that has mixed results.
Try these two and see if that combination will work for you.
Hi,
I purchased an HTC Magic G2 and during updating applications it crashed. When I power on my device it only shows me Rogers screen then HTC Magic logo in continuous loop. I am not able to get the Android OS screen on my HTC. I tried so many times power to on and off, but still the same result. In my country it still has not launched, so I found no one to repair it.
It has Android 1.5 OS. Can you please tell me how to restore my mobile back to how it was?
Thanks and regards,
Kailash
Unfortunately, it sounds like your phone is bricked, which means you have an expensive paperweight. There are people that can attempt to fix it, key word here is attempt, but there are no guarantees with this.
If it was just an update that crashed your phone and you bought it within the past year, you can try contacting HTC directly and see if they can fix it for you. For your phone it the website will be http://www.htc.com/ca/support/magic-rogers/help. From there you can find out how to contact HTC in your country.
Hi Nerdgirl,
I have a G1 running Cyanogens 5.0.8. I am trying to use Rockbaseplayer to get some AVIs running, but for some reason it won’t work. The app opens…I choose a file and then nothing. It just goes back into file browser mode.
I see other people have managed to get it working on their G1′s / low powered devices….
Help?
As a tech, I have to ask the easy stuff first. Have you uninstalled it then reinstalled? Have you verified that the file opens elsewhere and isn’t corrupt? You also need to take into account that the version of Cyanogen’s you are running is really a port. That means it’s not a full version made just for your phone. There will be more bugs on it than average and you might have run into one of them. It may be conflicting with another program on your phone that the other G1 users don’t have.
I would suggest going to http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/forum/23-cyanogenmod-ports/ and starting a new discussion about it. There may be others having the same problem and someone one there will most likely be able to help.
