Ask NerdGirl attempts to tackle these questions: Android apps won’ t update getting error “Unknown Reason – 18″, and is Exchange by Touchdown for Droid, tablet and PC? Plus terminal services apps for Android smartphones.
Hi!
For about a month now, a good proportion of my app updates have been failing. I’ve tried a couple of suggestions I found by googling: I cleared the cache/data on the Market app and the Download Manager, and I’ve tried uninstalling the updates to the Market app. Nothing seems to help. Out of about 20 updates that need to be downloaded, only maybe 1 or 2 will be successful. The rest say that they were unsuccessful for an “Unknown Reason – 18.” Any suggestions? Thanks!
Karen
Karen it seems the common cause to that problem is the app(s) in question are installed on the SD card. If that is the case, try moving them back to the phone’s internal memory, then clear Android Market cache, restart and try to update those apps.
Hi Nerdgirl,
My IT girl Lori Hardtke recommended your app Touchdown for my needs. My question is will the same Touchdown APP work for my Droid phone, Samsung Galaxy Tab and PC? Or will I need to get a different one for the PC (windows XP). What I am trying to do is sync my Microsoft Outlook 2007 on my phone, tab and PC so that when I read or delete an email on one it does it on the others. Currently, I am using Notifysync because I have a Blackberry but am changing to Droid (HTC Thunderbolt), Lori said you’re your program might be better.
My Microsoft Outlook is now set up on MS Exchange for my company accounts and then I have my personal msn emails with MS Outlook Connector. I am changing over to gmail because I have recently gotten inundated with spam and virus’.
I guess my last question would be where do I find the settings for Microsoft Exchange to set up my Tab or will I need that info if I use your product Touchdown?
I hope this makes sense.
Thank you,
Sandy
Sandy, Touchdown will work for Android phones and Android tablets but not as a program on the PC (this is what you’ll use MS Outlook for). It is an Android email client app that connects with Microsoft Exchange servers or any other POP or IMAP email service. Once properly setup on your Droid and Galaxy Tab, you should be able to seamlessly have email on both devices and in Outlook on your desktop; so deleting email on one device affects all.
You’ll find Microsoft Exchange settings within the Touchdown app, your IT girl Lori would be able to help plug in the values. Also, a common misunderstanding is that we, AndroidTapp.com, developed the app but in fact it is friends at Nitrodesk!
Hi
Could you comment on terminal services for Android smartphones.
Do you have a recommendation of a good solution for the purpose of being able to use a computer as a terminal to the Android phone.
I have this fantastic HTC Desire HD. An external keyboard would come in handy for many purposes. I haven’t tried the MessagEase setup but it didn’t get flying review on your site.
Thanks,
/Runar
There are a few Android apps for terminal services; try Better Terminal Emulator Pro ($3.99) as it works with root or without plus works with virtual keyboard on your Desire HD. MessageEase is virtual keyboard app and really your preference if you want to use it for typing.
