This article marks a milestone in NerdGirl history! That question about wallpapers down there is the 200th question I’ve answered! It doesn’t feel like that much until I think of all the stuff I’ve learned about smartphones. Thank you all for your questions, kind words, tips, and support! Here’s to 2,000 more….at least!
Hi,
I have a MyTouch 3G Slide and I use my phone for work and personal use. My job requires me to forward the office calls to my cell phone, but when a forward call comes in it doesn’t say it’s a forwarded call. Is there any app or setting that will show me when a call is forwarded?
Thanks!
Bunni
Generally this is set by your company. What you can ask your phone administrator to do is show all forwarded calls as your office number so you can tell it’s from work. As far as an app for the phone, the phone still just sees it as an incoming call.
Is there a ROM of 2.2 floating around for Samsung Moments?
Last I heard a ROM for Froyo on the Moment is about 30% complete and it at something like Alpha 12. So it is coming, but it’s not there yet.
Hello,
Question from a fresh HTC Desire owner.
My contacts after importing are displayed “Lastname, Firstname”. Is there a way to make them “Firstname Lastname”?
There are several apps that will allow you to change how you sort your contacts. One of them is called Better Contacts. This app allows you to sort by first or last name, company, or display name. It is a paid app, but it has a great rating and sounds like it’s perfect for what you need.
Is it possible to use a static 800×480 wallpaper in Sense UI, without being forced to make your images 800×960 so that they can be scrolled when changing displays?
You can use whatever size image you would like. However, part of the operating system is that it scrolls slightly as you change the home screen. This is why it makes you box the part you want to use. To make something static like you would like you would actually have to root your phone and develop code to modify the launcher to permit non-moveable wallpaper. I haven’t heard of anyone who has done this successfully.
The other option you could try is make a live wallpaper (if you have 2.1) which displays a single image that you can pick in its options. That would, in theory, do what you are looking for.
Here in my country (Poland, Plus GSM) no paid apps are being displayed on Android Market – tax issues or something, is there a way to bypass that restriction and allow me to support developers by actually paying them, without being forced to look for some kind of software piracy websites…?
Thanks in advance!
Spect
Unfortunately, Google hasn’t enabled Mobile Google Checkout in Poland as of now. Almost two years and Google only supports paid apps in a handful of countries…this makes no sense to me.
If you particularly like an app, I would go to the developers website and see if they have it available for download there. If not, email the developer and let them know your situation. They may be able to send it to you and set up payment another way.
The only issue in purchasing from the developer is first finding out what are cool paid apps available for purchase since non-supported countries can’t see these apps in the Market to begin with unless there is an accompanying free version. Thus, a lot of consumers find out about these apps via or Android app reviews or other sites like AppBrain. We wrote a workaround guide on How to Buy Android Apps in Countries that Don’t Support Paids Apps that works like a charm.
