Armadillo Roll is an OpenGL-ES 1.1 game for Android devices using Qualcomm Adreno graphics hardware. This demo was showcased at GDC 2008 and is released to the marketplace in the hopes you find it entertaining. For best performance, disable any persistent location or intensive services.
Price: Free
Armadillo Roll Android Game exhibits by far the best 3D gaming experience for Android! However, it is a one level demo created by Qualcomm’s internal developers to showcase the graphics processor chip already in most Android phones. Use the phones accelerometer to tilt the armadillos roll through a mystic land to the goal.
Though short, you can see the games fun factor potential. You’re immediately hooked but thirst is not quenched with one level.
The graphics make me proud of Android Gaming again  Now I can boast to my iPhone buddies… “Android finally has game with iPhone quality graphics”. Actually the quality is comparable to that of 64 bit Play Station 2, remarkable for a mobile phone.
The game uses the accelerometer and sound. You can set the accelerometer angle; play at 45 degrees (normal use of phone) or at 0 degrees (phone lying on a table).

Should you Download Armadillo Roll? Definitely give this Android Game a try… Interested in seeing if Qualcomm will fully develop the game or will another developer take it to the next level!

LuckyStar
LuckyStar is an addictive Platformer with 20 Levels of fantastic game play PixelWorld is in a spin. It’s gone completely topsy-turvy. ...
So has anyone tried this on a G1? Is it even playable at all?
Yes, the review was done on a G1, plus all the screenshots
Yes, yes, chip is capable.
But more interesting is the fact that this game is one big JNI lib linked *dynamically* to Android’s OpenGL – something that is not available to ordinary developers. We must use Java and suffer GC hiccups and JNI slowness. And I doubt that one can create something close to this game using official tools.
The Game runs fine on my Samsung Galaxy but without Sound.
Great game nevertheless!
Does Qualcomm give the source for this to show how they wrote this? GlSurfaceView ( GL 1.1. from Android Java ) is way to slow to write something like this. The 1.6 NDK lets you link against OpenGLES 1.1 in native code now, but the example presented there ( San Angeles…a 3D city of some sort ) still uses a stubbed out GLSurfaceView with everything else on the native side….still seems to be much slower than Armadillo Roll and Neocore from Qualcomm.
Does not work on Android 2.0
i cant get this game to work on my htc tattoo, (it has android tec) my screan goes white after iv selected play, the fone doesnt freeze or anything, is it my grafics card?
