APKatcher Android App is a small utility that tags along with Gmail to allow you download APK (Android Installer Packages) you receive via email. Why would you need this??? Simple, many developers sell or support their applications outside of Google’s Android Market. Such as SlideMe.org app store, AndAppStore independent marketplace, or YouTube Downloader (which is not permitted in the Market) therefore sold direct by the developer. Receiving an APK file in Gmail without this app would yield weird errors when you tried to install. Though this is a flaw with Android Gmail application, nEx.Software picked up the slack to allow you to download APKs and install them with the tool.
When installed and you receive an application via Gmail, tapp the “Preview” button which invokes the APKatcher option. This will launch an app installer and show you the apps’ requested permissions and options to Install or not.
Gripe to Google Android Team: This only helps with APKs but Google we need a built in Gmail solution for any attachment to be handled properly!!!
Very useful tool for folks plagued and frustrated by Android’s native Gmail apps lack to download attached APK files properly.
Only as often as receiving Android apps via Gmail.
