Sanyo Zio

Sanyo Zio

Back at CTIA Wireless I first saw this phone debut for Cricket and thought, well… it is on Cricket but Sprint picked this dud up apart of their Sprint ID launch series of phones. :( The performance on this phone is absolutiely horrible and even worse to type on the virtual keyboard.

Motorola Backflip Side

Motorola BACKFLIP

One of the first Android phones with radical design. The design is questionable as good and bad, but the worst part about this phone is that is still runs antique Android 1.5 operating system. Plus, since it’s an AT&T Android it doesn’t allow Android apps to be sideloaded.

Garminfone GPS Maps Navigation

Garminfone

This Garmin GPS Navigation powered phone didn’t do well in sales and prices were even slashed. Can’t say we didn’t see this one coming.

Motorola FlipOut

Motorola Flip Out

Appealing to the younger audience, to be a fun and hip Android phone should stay for the kiddies. The square screen size is so small only a kid can deal with it.

Dell Streak Tablet Phone

Dell Streak

Dell’s dud topped many news stories this year but disappointed when finally became available. Is it a phone? Rather huge to hold to the head… It is a tablet? Five inch screen is not really suitable for a tablet. The worst aspect is the old Android OS and custom skin (which will make seeing an upgrade impossible especially with dismal sales).

I don’t think the Streak belongs to this list. Its now one of the few 2.2 updated device (where is Samsung?) Beside if you need a big screen its still the only real choice. For extended web use its ideal. And now with 2.2 its really useful (great battery).

I’m surprised that the Dell Streak made this list. After the 2.2 Froyo upgrade it became a pretty good phone.

The validity of the inclusion of the Streak on the list is suspect. But not as suspect as the author claiming “The worst aspect is the old Android OS and custom skin (which will make seeing an upgrade impossible especially with dismal sales).”

Dell has been selling unlocked Streaks with Froyo onboard for some time, and AT&T locked versions are due to get the upgrade in early January.

And the custom skin provided by Dell is user removable as well.

It seems obvious that the author has never used a Streak, and failed to do any basic research.

Wow…published today, and how long has Dell been shipping Streaks with Froyo? You know, the upgrade you claim is impossible?

    Sheesh…do some research.

I liked this website and i’m starting to dislike it. Anyway, How the hell Dell Streak managed to get on this list ? Did you actually used it ? Or just seen one bad news about O2 bad Android update ?

I got this phone with Android 2.2 and it’s brilliant, its all in one device, phone, music, maps, gps, apps, games, books etc… That’s exactly what i wanted instead of carrying 5 different devices.

And believe me it doesn’t look stupid when you are on the phone.

I had the opportunity to use one and didn’t like it at all. Pre-loaded with 1.6 was a mistake in the beginning and turned a lot of people off. Camera didn’t seem very effective. Dell product (first mistake in my mind). The size is reasonable and of course having Android OS is a plus, but compared to a lot of other devices it just doesn’t make the cut.

Also, the size seems to appeal to a limited number of consumers. It’s stuck between “Wow the Evo is a big phone and this thing is even bigger!” and “It wants to be a tablet so bad but doesn’t quite make the cut”. 5 inches wasn’t really a “consumer friendly” size to make this device. Granted, I own an Evo and love the thing like none other. I used to get comments all the time about how big the screen was. I can only imagine how bad it would be if I had 5 inches!

Poorly marketed. It just never really caught on. Dell had the right idea in mind but failed to make a big impact with their product.

      Just my personal opinion.

The phone you forgot to include is the Motorola Cliq XT. Not a bad phone at all, but because it is STILL on Android 1.5 to this very day (and won’t get an update until sometime in 2011 we are told by the admins), it falls to the back of the line. :(

Yeah, that one didn’t smooth over well. Shockingly, I know someone that still owns one. She’s happy with it because she only uses it for Facebook, texting, and phone calls.

I have a garminfone and love it. Best I can tell, you put it on the list because it didn’t sell well. Nice criteria you use there. By that logic, selling the most hamburgers, McDonald’s must have the best burgers. And we all know that ain’t right.

In my opinion, there are several reasons it made it to this list but first and foremost: Nothing sets it apart from other devices. There are so many navigation apps available for Android devices, why but one specifically geared around Garmin? Personally, I think they made a good attempt and doing something no other navigation company had tried yet. The problem is that they relied on it being a Garmin-branded device to be their niche. Nothing else really stands out about this device. Hence, why advertisement was poor and it never did well with sales.
