Actually, I have an Android tablet from China, via eBay which cost me about £90. It meets only two of the specs above (USB sockets and SD slots) and it is fantastic. Boot time is about the same as my phone, I have access to Marketplace, and the thing is just great for pulling out of my bag and reading a book on when the mood strikes me. Or doing a bit of online shopping. Or doing a quick search. And this is what tablets are for – they’re never going to be a replacement for a laptop.

Sadly, I have yet to see an Andoird-based tablet that doesn’t look like it was thrown together and rushed to market in order to make the Xmas 2010 buying frenzy.

The reason I don’t own Apple products is because I don’t want to spend $600 every nine months to replace an intentionally obsolete device.

I’ll wait patiently. Maybe Fall 2011…

Extremely good article. VERY well researched and written. Keeps in mind or shows what might be wanted or have been wanted or needed both before and after purchase.
WHY must people be negative on an article such as this, when the author is trying to, and succeeds in being helpful.

I would also look for a 3G/4G connection via sim and not just wifi. And perhaps a built in GPS independent of mobile network positioning.

So what you’re really saying is, “although there are a lot of Android tablets available today, you should wait for the next batch of tablets to arrive, because nothing available today meets the requirements here”.
