Android Pwns iPhone, Grabs 27% Share of Recent Smartphone Subscribers Q2 2010 [Statistics]

From the same research data compiled by the Nielsen Company in which Apple used in its iPhone 4 keynote in June to pwn Android, it shows iPhone smartphone market share at 28% while Android a mere 9%. Nielsen statistics released today show Android crept past Apple’s iOS in the last quarter to grab a 27% share of those recent smartphone subscribers while Apple dropped to 23%.

Nielsen’s research also reveals smartphones now account for 25% of phones in the U.S. and they predict smartphones will out pace feature phones by 2011. These stats are in line with predictions forecast in an IDC report that Android will be the number two mobile smartphone OS behind RIM out-pacing iOS by 2013.
