According to AndroLib, web-based Android Market Viewer site, Google’s Android Market saw an exponential growth in new Android Apps launched in March 2010 of 9,308; up 40% from February (5,532 apps) and up 52% from January with (4,458 apps).
It would be interesting to see how many are legitimate apps as according to AppBrain nearly a third of Android apps are spam. The boom in apps can be attributed to many factors such as Verizon’s huge mainstream promotion of DROID phones, many carriers adopting Android, more than 50 smartphones available globally, and Android maturing into a leading mobile software.
