I bet most of the 2.1 phones were purchased with the expectation that 2.2 would be available “soon.” The paucity of upgrades is a downside that purchasers will recognize and, in time, will hesitate buying new Android phones for fear of being locked in to their current platform. Manufacturers, carriers and Google must work to fulfill the expectations of consumers or a growing number of owners will ‘hunker down’ and wait for the perfect phone, rather than risk hundreds on an upgrade with a one-year shelf life.

      Speak on brother!!

I bought the Samsung Vibrant a few months before Ginberbread was going to come out, with all the talk that there would be an upgrade to 2.2. What a farce Tmobile and Samsung are. Samsung did not even test Froyo until a few weeks ago and no news from Samsung or Tmobile. I bought thinking that Samsung and Tmobile would be progressive like other carrriers and Android phones that upgrade free or as soon as Froyo came out. Tmobile and Samsung are weak. I should have gone to Verizon for the Droid2 when I had the chance to not renew.
